RAPID INCREASE IN NEW CASES - 7 IN LIMASSOL, 13 IN TOTAL

A rapid increase in new cases of coronavirus was observed today in Cyprus, with the total number amounting to 1,080.

With regard to new cases of COVID-19 disease, according to data from the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit of the Ministry of Health, a total of 1,725 laboratory diagnoses identified 13 cases of SARS-CoV-2.

In detail, virus-positive individuals emerged as follows:

  • Of 469 samples taken through a private initiative, 5 cases occurred. The 3 people have a recent travel history.
  • Of 208 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics, 1 case was identified.
  • Of 139 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, we had 7 cases.

Specific:

  • 4 people contacted the couple who had come from the Netherlands on 17/7 and were announced positive for the virus on 26/7. All Cypriots, no symptoms. Cluster with a total of 6 people.
  • 2 people contacts of the case that we announced on 27/7, which in turn was contact of the case that had been detected through the Public Health Clinics (announced on 24/7). Today's cases have no symptoms. Cluster with a total of 5 people all in Limassol.
  • 1 person contact the Filipino announced on 27/7 with a recent travel history from the Philippines on 17/7. He was on lockdown. Today's case is her husband returning with her from the Philippines. They live in Limassol.

Public Health Clinics: She is being treated at the Nicosia General Hospital. She was examined because she is regularly hospitalized due to treatments she receives.

Private initiative:

  • 1 person in Limassol who took the test privately because he had symptoms. He said he had no contact with a case and had not traveled.
  • 2 people in Limassol. They have a recent travel history from England on 20/7 and did the test privately because they wanted to go to the occupied territories.
  • 1 person who returned from Santorini on 25/7. He's in Limassol, has no symptoms and did the test privately because he wanted to be checked.
  • 1 person who had symptoms and did the test privately in Larnaca.

In addition, the following laboratory diagnoses were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • From samples taken in the context of passenger and repatriated checks, 652 laboratory diagnoses were completed,
  • From samples taken under the control programme of 10,000 workers re-activated during the second and third phase of the strategy for phasing out restrictions, 210 laboratory diagnoses were completed, and
  • From the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 47 laboratory tests were carried out.

On the basis of today's data, the total number of positive cases amounted to 1,080.
