EMERGENCY CORONAVIRUS MEETING AT HEALTH MINISTRY FOLLOWING INCREASED CASES

in-cyprus 30 July 2020 - by Annie Charalambous

Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou on Thursday called for an urgent meeting with the coronavirus epidemiologists advising the government following an alarming rise of positive cases over the past few days.

On Wednesday, a total of 13 outbreaks were reported – seven of which in coastal Limassol where cases are on the rise.

All in all, the announcement of a two-digit number in new cases in Cyprus after around three months of single-digit numbers and zero cases has alarmed Nicosia.

Health officials keep sending the message that people should continue observing the protection measures and social distancing to avoid a new outbreak in the future.

Limassol Mayor Nicos Nicolaides went as far as to warn that a district lock down would be detrimental to the economy of the bustling city but maybe inevitable.
