Free Cryakl ransomware malware is available for free
Recently, the Belgian Federal Police has released to the public new free decryption tools for malware like ransomware,
Cryakl.
The investigation by the Belgian Federal Police of various cybercrime cases using the "Cryakl" malware has resulted
in the detection and confiscation of the central computer and other computer servers of the perpetrators. Through their
Forensic Examination, the Belgian Authorities obtained the acquisition of decryption keys.
The acquisition of these tools is a result of close collaboration with Kaspersky Lab, which provided technical expertise
with a positive result. This is another example that cooperation between the Police and private companies providing
digital security services can deliver positive results in the fight against malware.
Related Crycril malware tools are now available through the "No More Ransom!"
Website www.nomoreransom.org . This will allow all victims of the "Cryakl" malware attacks to unlock
their files without having to pay ransom to patrons.
The ransomware cybercrime is one of the biggest problems faced in recent years by the law enforcement
agencies against electronic crime in the European area. Complaints about attacks on computers, organizations,
companies, and ordinary citizens, amount to hundreds of thousands each year.
These are attacks against computers with a malicious software or if you prefer a loathing, which prevents the
victims from accessing their computer system by encrypting their files. In fact, with this software, criminals lock the
files and the computer system and ask their victims to pay for the ransom to unlock them.
The spread of malicious software is very easy, as it can be propagated by itself, through the internet and various
infected websites.
The enormous scale of this problem has mobilized the European prosecution authorities as well as
private companies to deal with it. Joining forces and efforts, in July 2016, the " No More Ransom! "-
www.nomoreransom.org , in order to inform the public about this online threat and to help the victims of the attacks,
to retrieve their data.
This action also includes the Cyprus Police and, in particular, the Office for Combating E-crime.
This website is an initiative of the High Tech Crime Unit, the Dutch Police, the European Center for Cybercrime,
Europol (EC-3) and two digital security services companies, Kaspersky Lab and McAfee. Through it, users who are
victims of such attacks have the ability to be informed about the type of malicious software that infected their computer
and about whether a decryption tool is available to retrieve their files.
At this time, 52 free decryption tools are available on this website, which are capable of decrypting 84 kinds of
ransomware malware, including the most widespread malware CryptXXX, CrySIS and Dharma.
So far, the site has helped more than 72,000 users recover their files after ransomware cyber attacks, saving
millions in cash as a ransom for the perpetrators.
The website, which is available in 29 languages, including Greek, has over the years been able to work together with
129 organizations, including the Cyprus Police, along with 40 other law enforcement agencies.
Despite the important step that has been achieved with the creation of the No More Ransom! Site and the constant
upgrades of what it offers, there is still a long way to definitively tackling this problem. As stated on the site, "it is much
easier to avoid the threat than to fight when the system is affected". That's why every internet user should be informed
and take the appropriate precautions, since the best solution to dealing with ransomware cyber attacks is diligent
prevention.
As a result, Internet users are encouraged to take the following simple prevention measures:
• Back up your backup data to a separate data storage medium
• Use reliable and up-to-date antivirus programs
• Do not download files from suspicious sources
• Do not open attachment emails from unknown senders
Each user should also know that if he falls victim to such abusers, he should never pay the ransom they are
asked for, as there are only a few times when despite the ransom payment, the laborers came back asking
for more money . In such cases, the user-victim should immediately inform the Police.
