The debate over the cost of electricity in Cyprus has focused attention on the price at which renewable energy is generated and sold, with claims that photovoltaic producers can generate electricity for as little as 7 or 8 cents per kilowatt-hour before selling it to the market for 25 or 30 cents.

The Electricity Market Association (EMA) disputes that picture, arguing that the figures do not reflect how the electricity market operates or the actual economics of running a solar installation.

As September arrives, so do Cyprus’ art exhibitions. With the return to routine, the local art scene resumes activity after a short August break and welcomes new showcases by local and invited artists.

In Limassol, a collection of paintings created in an artist studio in Paris, find a temporary home at the Lumière Contemporary Art Gallery as Christina Drakos presents her SOME BODY exhibition.

The Cypriot artist’s solo showcase opens on September 5 at 7pm and runs until November 5. A collection of expressive figurative paintings created in her Parisian studio will be on display exploring the relationship between observation, anatomy, movement and artistic expression.

Plans to develop Larnaca port and marina and Vasiliko port, together with the expansion of Latchi port, were discussed during a meeting this week between Transport Minister Evi Tsolaki and the Cyprus Ports Authority’s (CPA) new board.

According to a statement from the authority, the meeting took place at its head offices, where the newly appointed minister was briefed on its strategic planning and development projects, with particular emphasis on upgrading Cyprus’ port infrastructure.

According to the EU’s Education and Training Monitor, Cyprus records an overall low level of basic skills among students, which the report warns could also affect the country’s competitiveness.

The Minister of Defense, Vassilis Palmas, announced the start of the process for the closure of the Tseri Firing Range, noting that the countdown has already begun, without, however, specifying the exact timetable.

Speaking to RIK's "Morning Itinerary", Mr. Palmas stated that the decision concerns the Tseri Firing Range, while the picture for the Kalo Chorio Firing Range is currently different.
