The timetables for the completion of the expansion and upgrade works of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Makarios Hospital in Nicosia will be respected, with the delivery of the building project expected around the end of July 2027, assured the spokesman of OKYPY, Charalambos Charilaou.
In his statements, Mr. Charilaou stated that "the project is proceeding normally" and that the prescribed schedules are being met, noting that the progress of the works follows the provisions of the contract.
Asked about the implementation rate of the project, the spokesperson of OKYPY stated that he cannot accurately determine the completion rate, as this depends on the progress of the works and the provisions of the contract.
He added, however, that in case of non-compliance with the contractual obligations, the corresponding penalties are provided, including the imposition of fines.
Mr. Charilaou spoke of the "necessary" expansion and upgrading of the Unit, stressing that it will benefit patients and their families.
As he mentioned, this is a modern unit, which will fully serve both the existing and future needs of Cyprus, while offering significant support to health professionals, while ensuring a safe working environment.
Regarding the equipment of the new unit, Mr. Charilaou pointed out that the delivery of the building project is expected around the end of July 2027, as has already been announced, adding that "all the necessary actions have been taken to ensure the equipment of the unit".
Regarding the operation of the existing Unit during the construction works, he assured that it operates normally and without any restrictions due to the projects.
As he explained, at this stage, external works related to the expansion are being carried out, in order to then proceed with the renovation works.
