A mandatory QR code for the legality check in private hospitals, clinics, imaging centers and beauty salons, is provided for in a bill submitted to the House of Representatives by DIKO MP, Adamos Aspris.
The proposed legislation, titled "the Mandatory Posting of a Rapid Response Code by Health and Related Service Providers Law of 2026", aims to prevent the creation of a false impression that a particular service or activity is covered by the provider's license. In fact, as the rapporteur of the proposal notes, "the regulation acquires particular practical importance in areas where the choice to receive an unlicensed service may affect the health and/or safety of the citizen".
The bill was submitted to the Parliament and referred for discussion to the Parliamentary Committee on Health.
Who is affected by the regulation
Essentially, by scanning the quick response code (QR code), citizens will be able to immediately confirm whether the provider is operating legally and be informed about the range of services it is entitled to provide under its operating license.
The obligation to implement the measure concerns five specific categories of providers:
Private hospitals
Clinics
Recovery and rehabilitation centers
Imaging centers
Beauty salons
Where will the QR Code be posted and what will it include
Providers will be required to place the code in a prominent place on the outside or at the main entrance of the provider's premises, so that it can be scanned before entering it, in the main reception area and on its official website.
The code will refer to a single-format web page, where the following information will be presented in black letters on a white background:
– Its name and, if any, its trade name in case it differs from the name
– Its logo, if it has one
– A clear statement that it holds an operating license
– The number of its operating license
– The competent authority and the register or list where it is registered;
– The date of its initial licensing or registration
– A clear statement that, in accordance with the operating license and the relevant legislation, it is licensed to provide the services or carry out the activities to which it is entitled
– A complete and clear list of the services or activities that he/she is entitled to provide, in accordance with his/her license, its conditions and/or the relevant legislation
– The address of the premises in which it is housed
– His contact details
– The date of the last update of the information provided through the rapid response code.
It is noted that it is expressly forbidden to include any advertising or promotional material, offers or commercial messages through this code.
The information will be mandatory in Greek, with the right to a faithful translation in English as well.
Transitional provisions
The competent authority for each provider, such as the Superintendent of Private Hospitals, the Beautician Registration Council, etc., will be responsible for checking compliance.
If the proposal is passed into law and published in the Official Gazette of the Republic, the competent authorities will have to inform the providers within 3 months. Existing providers will have six months to create and upload the relevant codes at their own expense.
