The deadline given by ETYFA (Natural Gas Infrastructure Company) to contractors and consortia of companies to submit a proposal for expression of interest for the completion of the construction of the liquefied natural gas terminal in Vasiliko expired at noon.
The information of Fileleftheros states that eight companies have expressed interest, with the most important two giants of the energy construction industry worldwide: the Italian Saipem (15.5 billion euros turnover in 2025 and over 30,000 employees, with participation in drilling projects for natural gas in the EEZ of Cyprus and neighbouring countries) and the Chinese China Harbour. The Chinese company in question is state-owned, but has no direct connection with CPP, which had initially received the contract for the terminal but terminated the contract and left. In fact, China Harbour expressed interest in cooperation with Cypriot Cyfield.
Our information indicates that three large Greek companies, with experience in Cyprus, have also expressed interest: Terna, Avax and Archirodon.
A company with very good recommendations and significant know-how in the energy sector is also considered to be the Norwegian ECOnnect Energy, which also expressed interest.
ETYFA will evaluate the preliminary applications of the companies – joint ventures and at a later stage will decide which ones it will ask to submit a complete offer, on the basis of specific terms that have been prepared in cooperation with Technip Energies, which acts as an advisor to the state-owned company (a subsidiary of DEFA) for the completion of the LNG terminal. The project's budget is preliminarily €180 million.
Newer information indicates that ETYFA officially received eight expressions of interest (the two more are those of the Israeli Baran International and the Egyptian PETROJET). It has not been clarified whether all eight proposals meet all the basic conditions for the promotion of their evaluation, which will be clarified on Monday.
