Reports from crew members that the Filo Jet ship would sink and that the company did not invest in its maintenance were found in audio recordings being examined as part of the investigation of the August 30 shipwreck, off the occupied Kyrenia.
The nine suspects were brought before the "district court" of Kyrenia today, which ordered their "detention" for another seven days. They face charges of causing death by negligence.
The "police" said that 32 days of recordings from the trip data recorder were examined, with another 34 days remaining. There is no audio recording from the day of the shipwreck.
The footage records discussions about damage to the rudder, radar and cameras, as well as water ingress on previous routes. Crew members can be heard saying "this ship will sink", while in another recording the captain states that his condition is very bad and that he is getting water.
A university expert and a team of experts from Turkey will participate in the investigations. The number of wanted in the case has increased to six, while the search for a missing three-year-old girl continues.
Relatives of victims gathered outside the "court" again, demanding justice and protesting the slow progress of the investigation.
