Cyprus participates in the international joint information campaign together with 28 organizations from all over the world
The Pancyprian Association of Mastocytosis (PASYMAS) participates this year, as the representative of Cyprus in the International Committee on Mastocytosis and Mast Cell Diseases, in the joint global information and awareness campaign held on the occasion of the International Mast Cell Awareness Day and Mast Cell Diseases on October 20.
The International Committee is a global network of non-profit patient organizations, support organizations and collaborating organizations active in the field of Mast Cell Disease and Mast Cell Diseases.
The initiative was created in 2018, through the collaboration of 24 patient organizations, with the common goal of giving a stronger voice to people living with these rare diseases and their families, strengthening public and health professionals information, and promoting research, better diagnosis and access to appropriate treatments and care.
Today this international effort has expanded significantly and 28 organizations from all over the world are joining their voices for the first time in a joint, coordinated international campaign and Cyprus participates through PASYMAS.
For the first time in this extent, organizations from different countries simultaneously convey a common message through information material, social networks, posters, videos, personal testimonies of patients and awareness-raising actions.
"Invisible" diseases with a real impact
Mast Cell Diseases can affect each patient differently and, in many cases, the symptoms are not obvious to the people around them.
Mastocytosis is a rare condition associated with abnormal accumulation and activation of mast cells and can occur in both children and adults.
Depending on the patient and the form of the condition, different systems of the body may be affected and symptoms from the skin, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular and other systems may occur, while in some patients there is also a risk of serious reactions, such as anaphylaxis.
The complexity and overlap of symptoms with other conditions can also lead to a delay in diagnosis.
For this reason, the international effort focuses on information, symptom recognition, early and correct diagnosis, scientific research and the creation of stronger support structures for patients and their families.
Cyprus is part of a global voice
The participation of the Cyprus Mastocytosis Association in the International Committee is an important step for the representation of Cypriot patients at an international level.
Through cooperation with patient organizations and institutions from all over the world, PASYMAS seeks to exchange knowledge and experiences, develop international collaborations and enhance awareness about Mastocytosis in Cyprus.
At the same time, in the context of this year's International Day, the Association will carry out a series of information and awareness actions in Cyprus, conveying the common international message and giving a voice to people who live with Mastocytosis every day.
28 members.
28 countries.
A common voice.
A common goal: that no patient remains invisible.
October 20 is not just another date on the calendar.
It is a day for patients to be heard.
A day for more knowledge.
A day for early diagnosis, better care and more research.
A day to turn information into understanding and understanding into meaningful support.
Invisible struggles need visible support.
