NEW WHATAPP SCAM - FRAUDSTERS PRETEND TO BE THE ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL - HOW THEY GAIN ACCESS TO CITIZENS' ACCOUNTS - Filenews 22/10

Information from citizens regarding fraudulent messages, in which the Assistant Attorney General, Mr. Savvas Angelidis, appears to be the sender, is received by the Police.

Fraudsters use his name and status, attempting to lend credibility to their messages and mislead recipients.

The public is urged to exercise extreme caution, not to respond to these messages and not to follow any instructions contained therein.
At the same time, it is recommended to avoid opening links or attachments and sharing personal information.

Listing an official's name or status in a message does not guarantee its authenticity.

The public is asked not to respond to these messages, as it is a scam.

Tips:

The messages so far seem to be sent via the messaging app (WhatsApp).

In case a citizen responds and follows the fraudulent link, the fraudsters automatically gain access to his account.

As a security measure, citizens are asked to go to their account settings and check in the "Connected Devices" section where they can check if there is another connected device.

As an extra security measure, they can also apply "Two-Step Verification" through their account settings.
