The European "map" on which basic data of their medical history and their electronic prescriptions can travel with Cypriot citizens is gradually growing, with the new Cyprus-Estonia interconnection being the last step in the development of Electronic Cross-Border Health Services.
The picture today is significantly different from the one with which the implementation of the system began in 2025. According to the data presented by the official electronic platform of the National Contact Point for eHealth, Cyprus now has at least one active cross-border service with 13 countries.
These are the Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Spain, Croatia, Ireland, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal and Poland. However, the available features are not the same in all cases. In some countries, both the exchange of Summary Health History and the electronic prescription work in both directions, while in others only part of the services have been activated.
The new step with Estonia
The National eHealth Authority (EHRA) today announced the new interconnection with Estonia under the European MyHealth@EU, expanding the possibilities of digital service for citizens moving between the two countries.
According to the announcement, the connection allows, where the corresponding services are available, the execution of electronic pharmaceutical prescriptions when the citizen is in the other country. At the same time, Cyprus and Estonia can exchange a Patient Summary.
In practice, if a Cypriot needs treatment in Estonia or an Estonian citizen in Cyprus, the healthcare professional can obtain important information about the patient's health status through the system. A short medical history can include medication, allergies, diagnoses, and other basic medical history data.
The official platform of NCPeH currently records for Estonia as active all four main functions: sending and receiving a Summary History, as well as sending and receiving an e-prescription.
Five fully operational countries
With Estonia, five countries currently appear to have a full two-way interconnection with Cyprus for both basic services.
These are the Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Spain and Croatia. In these five cases, the sending and receiving of medical history as well as the sending and receiving of an electronic prescription are already in operation.
Greece is of particular importance, due to the large number of citizens moving between the two countries. The Cyprus-Greece interconnection was launched in the fall of 2025, allowing doctors and pharmacists to leverage their respective cross-border services.
Eight other countries with individual services
In addition to the five fully interconnected countries, there are eight more in which at least one of the available services operates.
In Luxembourg, the exchange of Summary History works both ways, but not the electronic prescription. In Ireland and the Netherlands, the sending of medical history from Cyprus appears active.
The picture is different in Lithuania, Latvia and Poland, where the e-prescription service is active in both directions, but not the exchange of Summary History.
In Portugal, the sending and receipt of a medical history, as well as the receipt of an electronic prescription from Cyprus are active, while in Norway the receipt of an electronic prescription is recorded as active.
In contrast, on the same platform Finland, France and Malta currently appear without an active service in the four specific categories.
