HALF A MILLION FOR A NEW BASKETBALL COURT AT THE POLICE ACADEMY

HALF A MILLION FOR A NEW BASKETBALL COURT AT THE POLICE ACADEMY - Filenews 2/10 by Andreas Athanasiou

A project that is expected to renew the sports infrastructure of the Cyprus Police Academy is being promoted by the Police, with the construction of a new basketball court and a locker room building.

The relevant tender has already been announced, with the estimated value amounting to €529,000 excluding VAT and the funding coming from national resources.
From the plans accompanying the tender, it appears that the stadium will also have a canopy, while the new locker room building will be erected next to it. This is an intervention that will change the image of the specific area and will create more organized conditions for sports and physical preparation. Besides, basketball, as a team sport, can act as a complement to the training of members of the Police, strengthening elements such as cooperation, communication and teamwork, in addition to physical fitness.

Interested contractors can submit bids until October 23, 2026 through the electronic public procurement system.

Specific financial criteria are also set for participation in the tender. Among other things, candidates should have an average annual turnover of at least €1 million in the last three financial years.

At the same time, previous experience in projects of the same category is required. Interested parties should have completed at least three projects worth €500,000 or more each within the last five years.

Based on the timetable included in the documents, the results of the tender are expected to be announced about a month and a half after the deadline for submitting tenders, while the signing of the contract is estimated about two months later.

The duration of the works has been set at ten months from the start date of the project. This means that, if the process proceeds without delays, the new facilities could be ready around autumn 2027.
