GESY - ON-CALL CLINICS IN THE SPOTLIGHT - 15,000 VISITS WERE RECORDED IN 2025 - Filenews 14/10 by Marilena Panayi

Fifteen thousand or so visits were recorded throughout 2025 in the on-call clinics of the GHS, a System that has almost one million registered beneficiaries.

The aim of the on-call clinics is to enable citizens to be served, during non-working hours and days, when a health problem arises that cannot wait until the next day, without the need for a visit to the Accident and Emergency Departments.
According to official HIO data, visits increased from 12,185 in 2023 to 13,840 in 2024 and reached 15,168 in 2025. Of these, 8,399 involved children and 6,769 adults.

The most visits in 2025 were recorded by Nicosia, with 3,809, followed by Paphos with 3,623, Larnaca with 3,385, Famagusta with 3,114 and Limassol with 1,237.

With the aim of strengthening the institution and increasing the attendance of patients so that they can be served, when there is a reason, by the on-call clinics without causing congestion in the A&E departments, the HIO is proceeding with the information campaign of the beneficiaries of the System.

As reported in "F", "the aim of the Organization's information campaign is for more beneficiaries to know when they can turn to the on-call services of personal doctors and how to access them".
"With clear and practical information, we want to help citizens make good use of services when the need arises on weekends and public holidays."

The campaign therefore focuses "on informing about a service already offered through the GHS, so that beneficiaries know how they can use it when they need it".

The on-call clinics of the GHS operate every Saturday and Sunday, as well as on public holidays from 11 am to 5 pm, while the telephone service starts at 10:30 am.

Beneficiaries who need medical attention on these days must first contact the on-call service of their province by phone, so that their symptoms can be assessed and, if necessary, an appointment for examination by a personal doctor can be arranged.
