The publication of the names of health service providers who have committed specific violations in the context of the GHS is provided for by a bill submitted by the Kyrenia MP, Adamos Aspris.
According to the proposed amendment to the legislation, the Health Insurance Organization (HIO) will publish, following a specially reasoned decision of its board of directors, the details of providers who have been convicted of specific offenses or have committed violations provided for in the GHS legislation.
The disclosure will include the name or business name of the provider, its capacity, the nature of the infringement and the penalty or sanction imposed.
The proposal also provides that, in the event of a pending court case for an offence related to the exercise of the professional duties of a provider, the HIO will make the event public, specifying that the case has not yet been heard.
The information will be posted on the official website of the HIO and, as long as the provider remains contracted with the GHS, it will also appear during its online search by patients.
The proposal includes procedural safeguards, including the right of the affected provider to be heard before disclosure.
The aim, according to the explanatory memorandum, is to enhance transparency, accountability and patient protection so that they can make better-informed decisions when choosing a health provider.
