The rally in fuel prices continues in the domestic market, further burdening household and business budgets. According to the updated data of the Retail Fuel Price Observatory of the Consumer Protection Service, in the last 60 days, from the beginning of August to October 2, 2026, a significant burden on motor and heating fuels has been recorded.
Diesel recorded the largest increase, reaching 30.4 cents/liter, with the average nationwide price now standing at €2.025/liter.
Heating oil recorded an increase of 26.3 cents/litre, bringing the average price to €1.658/litre.
At the same time, unleaded gasoline 95 Oct. It showed an increase of 16.9 cents/liter, with the average price amounting to €1,740/liter.
The average, cheapest and most expensive prices recorded nationwide are as follows. The price of unleaded 95 ranges from €1,659 – €1,825/liter, diesel €1,935 – €2,128/liter and heating oil €1,529 – €1,774/liter.
The analysis of Platts International Prices up to 30/09/2026 shows a relative stabilization in recent days, however, prices remain stuck at particularly high levels. When comparing international prices from February to the period March – September 2026, the total increases in international markets were rapid: Diesel: 103.86%, Heating oil: 103.21%, Unleaded gasoline 95: 78.08% and Crude oil (Brent): 52.36%.
Compared to price levels before February 27, 2026, the total increases in the retail market reach 42.6 cents/liter in unleaded 95, 61.5 cents/liter in diesel and 70.9 cents/liter in heating oil. In the event of a full reinstatement of the Special Consumption Tax (8.33 cents/liter), the average price of unleaded 95 is estimated to reach €1.823/liter and diesel €2.108/liter.
