The "Domestic Abuse Support NGO of the Year 2026/27" award was awarded to the Association for the Prevention and Response to Domestic Violence in the Family (SPAVO), in the context of the Southern Europe Prestige Awards, for its work in preventing and addressing domestic and gender-based violence.
According to an announcement by the Association, the international distinction recognizes its 36 years of contribution to the protection and support of victims of violence in Cyprus, as well as its role in the development of specialized services and partnerships to address the phenomenon.
As mentioned, according to the jury's evaluation, SPAVO stood out for its comprehensive network of services, which includes the 24-hour National Helpline 1440, immediate intervention, counselling and psychological support services, safe places to accommodate women and children, as well as the Woman's House.
It is noted that the work of the Association also includes interventions for people who practice violence, with the aim of stopping violent behaviour, while special recognition was given to its transnational collaborations and educational and training actions.
SPAVO states that the award is a recognition of the contribution of its employees, volunteers and partners, dedicating the distinction to women, children and all those who trust its services.
''It is not enough to encourage a victim to speak up. We must ensure that, when it does, it finds a system ready to listen, protect and support it," the statement said.
In conclusion, the Association reaffirms its commitment to continue its work to protect victims of violence and ensure the safety, dignity and respect of every human being.
