Officials of the Customs Department at Paphos Airport, after evaluating information, located a passenger, holder of a British passport, bound for Manchester, United Kingdom, with his luggage containing large quantities of cigarettes.

Specifically, a total of 175 boxes of 200 cigarettes each were found in the passenger's luggage, the packaging of which did not bear the marking for the harmful of smoking in the Greek and Turkish languages, nor the safety feature and the unique traceability code, indications that they were duty-free.

The passenger was arrested for flagrante delicto, while the luggage and its contents were confiscated. Later in the evening, he was released, after his request for an out-of-court settlement of the case with payment of €5,000 was accepted. The seized cigarettes will follow the prescribed destruction procedure.

A 44-year-old man was arrested last night at Larnaca Airport and taken into custody to facilitate investigations into five investigated cases of burglary and theft.

The 44-year-old, against whom a European Arrest Warrant was pending, was located in a European country and yesterday handed over to the Cypriot authorities.

Five cases of burglary and theft committed between 2010-2013 are being investigated against him.

The 44-year-old is expected to be brought before the Limassol District Court this morning for the procedure for issuing a detention order.

On 1/10/2026, also officials of the Customs Department at the Deryneia Crossing Point, were informed by members of the Famagusta OPE that after a raid on a premises in the area of Paralimni - Protaras, they found large quantities of tobacco products that appeared to be tax-free.

The tobacco products and the suspect (owner of the premises) were taken to the Deryneia Crossing Point where they were identified and counted. Specifically, a total of 54 boxes of 200 cigarettes each, 9 packs of 20 cigarettes each, 3 boxes of 200 heated cigarettes each and 12 packages of tobacco for rolled cigarettes of 50gr each, the packages of which did not bear the labelling for the harmful effects of smoking in the Greek and Turkish languages, were counted. but neither did the security feature and the unique traceability code, indications that they were duty-free.

The suspect was arrested for flagrante delicto, while the tobacco products were confiscated. Later in the evening, he was released, after his request for an out-of-court settlement of the case with payment of €5,000 was accepted. The confiscated cigarettes will follow the prescribed destruction procedure.

The presence and action of the Police last night was intense, throughout Cyprus, with organized patrols in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, ensuring public order and increasing the sense of security of the public.

As a result of the preventive police operations, six persons were arrested for various offenses such as illegal stay in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, illegal possession of property and exercise of the profession of private security guard without a license.

As part of these operations, during the night, 587 vehicles were stopped for inspection and 863 persons on board were checked. At the same time, 56 inspections were carried out in premises with the aim of dealing with phenomena of delinquency, during which 14 complaints emerged.

During traffic checks carried out, 280 complaints were made, concerning various traffic violations, while 14 investigated cases of traffic violations also emerged.

Of the complaints made, 110 concerned exceeding the speed limit, while as part of the police examinations, 11 vehicles were detained.

306 alcohol tests were carried out, from which 27 complaints emerged, as well as 4 preliminary drug tests with 3 positive results.

Policing operations, for the prevention and suppression of crime, continue daily, with an increased/enhanced police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action, with the aim of increasing the sense of security of citizens/protecting citizens and ensuring public order.

The Police in Limassol arrested a 28-year-old man today, to facilitate investigations into an investigated case of arson of a car, committed in Limassol on September 14, 2026.

Specifically, around 2.30 in the morning, a fire broke out in a car, which was parked in the yard of the house of its 25-year-old owner, in the province of Limassol.

Members of the Police and the Fire Service went to the scene, who extinguished the fire, from which the vehicle was completely destroyed, while the on-site examinations that followed found that it had been set maliciously.

As part of the investigation of the case, testimony was secured against a 28-year-old man, who was arrested yesterday on the basis of a court warrant and taken into custody.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Limassol District Court today for the issuance of a detention order.

The Episkopi Police Station and the Limassol Police Department continue the examinations.
