A vehicle driven by a Briton dragged two families in Argaka, among them a 37-year-old pregnant woman.

The accident occurred yesterday late afternoon in Argaka, during the time of the arrival of people at the avocado festival.

According to the police, a vehicle driven by a 66-year-old foreigner with his 56-year-old partner as a passenger, under circumstances that are being investigated, dragged and injured the members of two families, six people in total.

The foreigner hit a 42-year-old man from Argaka, his 37-year-old wife who is pregnant and their two children who were holding hands 7 and 5 years old. With them, a second couple of residents of the area, 65 and 64 years old, crossed Makarios Avenue.

They were all taken to the Paphos hospital where his father and children were discharged, his wife was taken to a private clinic for treatment, while the 65-year-old and his wife were kept for treatment as a precaution.

The driver of the vehicle was subjected to a preliminary alcohol test with a reading of 49 instead of 22, while later he did not give a satisfactory sample for a final check.

The foreigner was arrested and taken into custody.


Update  -  Filenews - The vehicle also crashed into parked cars, causing property damage.

The 66-year-old driver continued his course and at a distance of about half a kilometer, under circumstances that are being investigated, he lost control of his vehicle and after crashing into a concrete manhole, he was immobilized.

The Police made 13 arrests as part of its targeted preventive operations.

A relevant announcement states that the arrest of 13 persons was made for various offenses, such as illegal drug possession, burglaryof a building and theft, possession of burglary tools, illegal stay on the territory of the Republic, as well as driving under the influence of alcohol.

As part of these operations, during the night, 700 vehicles were stopped for inspection and 981 persons on board were checked. At the same time, 97 inspections of premises were carried out, with the aim of dealing with phenomena of delinquency, from which 13 complaints emerged.

During traffic checks carried out, 281 complaints were made, concerning various traffic violations, while 20 investigated cases of traffic violations also emerged.

As part of the police examinations, 15 vehicles were detained.

Of the complaints made about traffic violations, 127 complaints concerned exceeding the speed limit. There were 20 complaints about driving under the influence of alcohol, while three cases of driving under the influence of drugs emerged.

For driving under the influence of alcohol, 186 vehicle driver checks were carried out, while for driving under the influence of drugs, four driver checks were carried out.

Policing operations, for the prevention and suppression of crime, continue every day, with an enhanced police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action, in order to protect citizens and ensure public order.

The circumstances under which a work accident occurred in Nicosia, in which three people, aged 33, 45 and 49, were seriously injured, are being investigated by the Police.

According to a complaint filed around 7:30 last night, the labor incident happened on 08/10/2026, around 9.30 to 10.15 in the morning, in a building under construction, in Strovolos.

Under circumstances that are being investigated, while the 33-year-old, the 45-year-old and the 49-year-old were working in the construction, they allegedly fell from a height of about nine meters.

The three employees were transported by ambulance to the Nicosia General Hospital, where they are being treated.

According to the treating doctors, the health condition of the 45-year-old is critical but stable, while the condition of the 33-year-old and the 49-year-old is serious.

The Strovolos Police Station, in collaboration with the Labour Inspection Department, are investigating.
