The Council of Ministers decided on Wednesday to amend the existing legislation on the prohibition of boats from the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, as well as for their mandatory movement to a safe haven or port, as an interim measure until the establishment of the Coast Guard, as announced by the Deputy Minister of Shipping Marina Hatzimanoli.
According to the Deputy Minister, it was also decided that the Deputy Ministry approves the establishment of a Committee for the anchorages, chaired by the Ministry of Shipping with all relevant state and other services as members, which will examine overall issues related to safety, the conditions of stay of vessels, as well as the collection and proper management of waste, with the aim of unified coordination of state services operating at sea with clear responsibilities.
According to information, the Committee for the moorings, the establishment of which will be promoted immediately, will include representatives of the Ports Authority, the Department of Environment, the Department of Fisheries, the Port Police and local authorities.
