At a reduced cost, students' bus travel continues in the 2026-2027 school year, with the monthly ticket set at €5 and the annual ticket at €30.
In view of the start of the new school year and following the Ministerial Decision dated August 27, 2025, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works informs the passenger public that the implementation of the subsidy measures for student bus tickets continues during the school year 2026-2027, in cooperation with the companies providing the public service of domestic road passenger transport, in the context of the social policy of the state.
Specifically, for the period from September 1, 2025 to August 31, 2027, the monthly student fee is set at €5, with a state grant of €17.
The annual student fee is set at €30, with a state grant of €190 for each student.
From September 1, 2025 onwards, all children of large and five-member families attending Public Secondary and Technical Education are exempt from paying the fare. In order to secure the exemption, an identity card for large families or a certificate from a family of five must be presented.
A monthly or annual zero-value ticket is also issued for needy students and children of Guaranteed Minimum Income (GMI) beneficiaries.
Beneficiaries of the student fare category also include minor children who are under the care and guardianship of the Social Welfare Services and do not attend school. The amount of €5 for the monthly fare and €30 for the annual fee is paid by the Social Welfare Services, while the amounts of €17 and €190, respectively, are subsidized by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works. For the issuance of the ticket, a relevant certificate from the Social Welfare Services must be presented.
For the issuance of the annual student ticket, students will need to secure a personalized Motion card. For the issuance of the card, a certificate of attendance and/or student ID for the current school year must be presented.
During the first week of the new school year, ie. until Friday, September 11, 2026, students will be transported free of charge, in order to give the necessary time for the issuance of personalized Motion cards. The issuance process has started since September 1, 2026, and the public is invited to take the necessary actions in a timely manner to secure the card.
As of Monday, September 14, 2026, students will be required to have a valid fare for their transportation by bus.
These measures aim to facilitate the daily commute of pupils and encourage more pupils to use public passenger transport.
