SPECIAL EDUCATION IS GOING TO THE MINISTERIAL -WHAT DOES THE PROPOSAL OF THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION INCLUDE? - Filenews 30/9 by Evangelia Sizopoulou

The proposal of the Ministry of Education regarding Special Education and the much-discussed issue of the bill for its modernization is before the Council of Ministers today. An issue that has been plaguing the stakeholders for years, as for 27 years the current legislation has not been legally differentiated.
According to information from "F", the proposal put before the Council of Ministers includes, among other things:

The modernization of Special Education legislation
Personalized programs for children based on their needs
Provision of a school-leaving certificate to all children attending general schools
Relevant educational material and the corresponding training of teachers
Stricter timetables regarding the various procedures of the District Committees for Special Education and Training

It is recalled that the policy designed by the Ministry of Education, around the amendment of the current legislation, was recently presented in the presence of the stakeholders and the director of the European Agency for Special Education and Inclusive Education, Dr. João Costa, and as it was said at the time, Cyprus' planning for this sector is in line with European policy. In that presentation, reference was made by the Minister of Education to ten pillars that are expected to shape the future of inclusive education.
