The percentage of people aged 16 and over who consumed alcohol daily in Cyprus in 2025 stood at 1.9%, compared to 4.8% in the EU as a whole, according to data published on Monday by Eurostat. At the same time, 16.1% of the population in Cyprus consumed alcohol on a weekly basis and 22.1% on a monthly basis, compared to 19.2% and 21.8%, respectively, in the EU.
According to Eurostat, across the EU, 20.7% of people aged 16 and over consumed alcohol less often than once a month, while 33.5% had never consumed alcohol or had not consumed at all during 2025.
As Eurostat reports, alcohol consumption in the EU was more common among men compared to women, both on a daily and weekly and monthly basis. Specifically, 56.5% of men consumed alcohol at least once a month, compared to 35.9% of women.
At the same time, the percentage of people who consumed alcohol daily increased with age. In the 16 to 24 age group, daily consumption was limited to 0.8%, while in people aged 65 and over the corresponding percentage was 8.9%.
Differences were also recorded depending on the economic and social situation of the population. According to the Agency, people at risk of poverty or social exclusion were less likely to consume alcohol compared to those who did not.
In particular, 47.5% of people at risk of poverty or social exclusion stated that they had never consumed alcohol or had not consumed in the previous year, compared to 29.9% among those who were not at risk.
