The Council of Ministers has instructed the Deputy Ministry of Culture to draw up a long-term plan aimed at further developing the dissemination of opera in Cyprus and ensuring the continuation of the institution of the Paphos Opera Festival, said Deputy Minister of Culture Klea Hadjistefanou Papaellina, speaking at the opening ceremony of the annual opera festival, Pafos Aphrodite Festival, in the square area of the Medieval Castle of Kato Paphos.
From 2027, he said, the Government is promoting a new framework of cooperation between the State, the local authority of Paphos and the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, in which special emphasis will be placed on the development of educational activities for young people and with the aim of familiarizing them with the art of opera.
The Deputy Minister of Culture also stressed that the Deputy Ministry is currently completing the elaboration of the strategy for the promotion of cultural diplomacy. A strategy, he pointed out, that includes a series of actions, including the systematic cooperation of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra with internationally recognized cultural institutions such as the National Academic Ballet and Opera Theatre of Armenia, which participated in this year's Paphos Opera.
Already, he stressed, we are working towards the presence of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra in events in Armenia.
Ms. Papaellina pointed out that the planning promoted by the Government strengthens the artistic extroversion of Cyprus, promotes intercultural dialogue and creates new opportunities for the exchange of know-how.
