A forest fire that broke out in the area of the Prodromos Fence, within the Troodos State Forest, was brought under full control in the early hours of the morning, with two people being questioned as part of an investigation into its causes.
The fire broke out at 00:45 and was brought under full control at 01:25, before it had time to spread, thanks to the timely intervention of the firefighting forces. Seven people from the Forestry Department with three fire trucks and three members of the Fire Service with a fire truck participated in the operation.
Members of the Pedoulas Police Station as well as the Orkontas and Prodromos Forest Stations went to the scene.
About five square meters of dry vegetation were destroyed by the fire.
During the examinations that followed, two persons aged 18 and 20 were found at the scene, who reported that the fire was caused while they were trying to cook food.
The persons in question were taken to the Morphou Police Department for questioning.
The case is being investigated by the Morphou Police Department.

The presence and action of the Police last night was intense, throughout Cyprus, with organized patrols in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, ensuring public order and increasing the sense of security of the public.
As a result of the preventive police operations, seven persons were arrested for the offenses such as, theft of a vehicle, illegal stay in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, illegal possession of drugs, possession of burglary tools during the night, etc.
As part of these operations, during the night, 622 vehicles were stopped for inspection and 903 persons on board were checked. At the same time, 58 inspections were carried out in premises with the aim of dealing with phenomena of delinquency, during which four complaints emerged.
During traffic checks carried out, 277 complaints were made, concerning various traffic violations, while 14 investigated cases of traffic violations also emerged.
Of the complaints made, 102 concerned exceeding the speed limit, while as part of the police examinations, 14 vehicles were detained. 310 alcohol tests were also carried out, from which 21 complaints emerged, as well as a preliminary drug test without positive results.
Policing operations, for the prevention and suppression of crime, continue daily, with an increased/enhanced police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action, with the aim of increasing the sense of security of citizens/protecting citizens and ensuring public order.

At a speed of 100 km/h, twice the allowed limit of 50 km/h, a 22-year-old man was found driving on Griva Digeni Avenue in Engomi shortly before midnight on Saturday. The young man was arrested for a self-inflicted crime and is expected to appear before a court on Monday.
The 22-year-old was charged in writing and then released, after he was served with a guarantee document to appear before a court, where a traffic case will be registered against him.
The case is being investigated by the Agios Dometios Police Station.

A minor was arrested in Larnaca in connection with the theft of a 43-year-old vehicle's vehicle from a car wash, a case for which another person is wanted. The arrested person is expected to be brought before a court today for the issuance of a detention order.
According to the Police, last Wednesday, September 16, 2026, a 43-year-old man reported the theft of his vehicle to the Larnaca Police Department.
As he stated in his complaint, the vehicle had been stolen the previous day, while it was in a car wash.
As part of the examinations that followed, arrest warrants were obtained against two persons.
Yesterday, around 7:30 pm, members of the Larnaca Cycling Police located and arrested one of the two persons wanted in connection with the case.
This is a minor, who was detained and is expected to appear before a court today for the issuance of a detention order.
The case is being investigated by the Larnaca Police Department.

A fire that broke out in three different outbreaks in the "Kampos tou Mylos" area, in the community of Orounta in the province of Nicosia, burned about a hectare of dry grass and wild vegetation.
The Fire Service responded to the incident yesterday, Saturday, at 14:43 with a fire truck, while a vehicle of the SupportCY volunteer team also assisted.
The causes of the fire are under investigation.
In total, in the last 24 hours, the Fire Brigade responded to 36 incidents, including 17 fires, 15 special services and 4 false calls.

The Police arrested a 19-year-old man in the early hours of this morning, as part of the investigation of a case involving the offenses of possession of burglary tools during the night, reckless and dangerous driving, driving without a driver's license, driving without an insurance certificate, using an immobilized vehicle and non-compliance with a police signal.
Specifically, around 9.00 last night, members of the Paphos OPE, during a patrol, spotted a vehicle in the area of Paphos repeatedly making dangerous manoeuvres and drifts, endangering other road users.
The members of the Police signalled to the driver to stop for a check, however he failed to comply and developed speed, trying to escape, resulting in a pursuit of the vehicle.
The pursued vehicle ended up on a dead end, where the driver and his two passengers abandoned it and fled on foot, leaving the vehicle's engine running.
In a subsequent search of the vehicle, various burglary tools were found.
From the examinations that followed, testimony emerged against a 19-year-old, who was arrested around 1:00 after midnight. The arrested person was brought before the Paphos District Court today, which issued a two-day detention order against him.
The TAE and the Paphos Traffic Police continue the examinations.

Two pedestrians were injured in a road traffic collision that occurred today in the early hours of the morning in Paralimni, while the driver of the vehicle involved left the scene.
Specifically, around 4:00 a.m., a vehicle moving on Vrysoudion Street, in the direction of the Agia Triada roundabout in Paralimni, under circumstances that are being investigated, dragged two pedestrians, a 28-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man.
Immediately after the collision, the driver of the vehicle left the scene.
An ambulance was called to the scene, which transported the injured to the General Hospital of Famagusta. The 28-year-old, after receiving first aid, was discharged, while the 29-year-old is in critical condition.
The Famagusta Traffic Police continues the examinations to determine the circumstances under which the collision occurred, as well as to locate the driver of the vehicle.
