An apartment building that came into the possession of a banking institution was the target of burglars.
They removed boilers and copper pipes worth €6,000 and caused damage of another €6,000.
According to the police, an employee of a contracting company that undertook the renovation of the building went to the site early last night and found that the entrance had been violated.
At the same time, he spotted two people in the building and managed to stop one and hand him over to a police patrol that had rushed to the scene.
As it was established, he is a 54-year-old expatriate, while the second, also expatriate, whom the arrested person has named, is also being sought.

The presence and action of the Police last night was intense, throughout Cyprus, with organized patrols in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, ensuring public order and increasing the sense of security of the public.
As a result of the preventive police operations, six persons were arrested for various offenses such as illegal possession of drugs, burglary of a building, theft and malicious damage and non-compliance with the terms of the Court.
As part of these operations, during the night, 638 vehicles were stopped for inspection and 796 persons on board were checked. At the same time, 39 inspections were carried out in premises with the aim of dealing with phenomena of delinquency, during which no complaint was made.
During traffic checks carried out, 363 complaints were made, concerning various traffic violations, while 13 investigated cases of traffic violations also emerged.
Of the complaints made, 138 concerned exceeding the speed limit, while as part of the police examinations, 12 vehicles were detained. Also, 169 alcohol tests were carried out, from which five complaints emerged, as well as two preliminary drug tests with corresponding positive results.
Policing operations, for the prevention and suppression of crime, continue daily, with an increased/enhanced police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action, with the aim of increasing the sense of security of citizens/protecting citizens and ensuring public order.

A six-month exclusion order from sports venues was issued on September 14, 2026, by the Nicosia District Court, against two persons aged 20 and 29. They were also fined €1,000 and €1,300 respectively.
The two convicted had been found guilty by the Nicosia District Court on charges of conspiracy to commit a felony, transport of explosives without a permit, transport of an offensive weapon to the immediately adjacent area of a sports venue.
The above were arrested at the GSP stadium, in Nicosia, on May 29, 2026, where the cup final between the teams APOLLON - PAPHOS was held.

The head of the Game Service, Pantelis Hatzigeros, referred to serious complaints about the action of a well-organized team, which engages in systematic nocturnal poaching of hares in the wider area of Androlykou.
According to the information of the parliamentary committee on the environment, poachers operate almost every night, taking advantage of the darkness, isolation and inaccessible terrain of the area around the community.

There was a disturbance in the center of Paphos, due to a violent incident between a group of young people.
As Filenews was informed, for an unknown reason shortly before 4:00 in the afternoon, a fierce fight broke out in the middle of the street, outside a restaurant.
The young people, in fact, allegedly punched, threw chairs and insulted.
There was a commotion in the area, while neighbours and shopkeepers in the area watched in fear.
The Police were called to the scene and examinations are being carried out to locate them.

A lawyer was recently found guilty by the Disciplinary Board of the charge of making an offensive comment on social media that contained sexist content. The lawyer in question initially faced five charges, three of which were rejected for not being promoted, the fourth relating to disgraceful or incompatible conduct with the profession of lawyer, namely recording local council meetings representing the Bar Association and the fifth for posting in relation to a comment with racist content.
The defendant lawyer did not admit either of the two charges, which is why witnesses were heard. The Disciplinary Board acquitted him of the charge of recording the council's meetings, judging from the testimony that the details of the offense were not proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
For the 5th category of disgraceful or incompatible conduct towards the profession of lawyer and demonstration of behavior that contradicts or conflicts with the provisions of the Lawyers' Ethics Regulations 4-9, the Council also heard witnesses and examined both the lawyer's post and citizens' comments, as well as his own positions.
In the details of the offense, it is stated that, the accused lawyer, while practicing law and was president of [...] and in this capacity he was invited and represented [...] at a public event, made an offensive comment on social media concerning a person who participated in the event and which comment contained sexist content and aroused reactions from both people and citizens.
According to the decision of the Disciplinary Board, "the whole issue that we should examine is whether the post of the accused lawyer was such that it constituted shameful or incompatible conduct with the profession. First of all, it is not disputed that on xxxxxx the defendant lawyer represented the bar association at the inauguration of xxxxxxh, nor is it disputed that the defendant lawyer proceeded with a post critical of the student's clothing".
According to the three-member Disciplinary Body, "the use of the phrase xxxxxx without reading it in isolation from the rest of the text of the post, can only be considered as offensive as sexist but also degrading to the personality of the xxxx high school student. This position is also reflected in presumption 2 where the accused lawyer receives a lot of reactions for his post."
Furthermore, the Disciplinary notes that the seriousness of the comment acquires a greater dimension taking into account that it was addressed to a student. The position of the defendant lawyer that he took down or deleted the comment in question was not disputed, however, as the defendant lawyer himself stated during his cross-examination, it was made 2 to 3 days after the incident.
The fact that he admittedly did not immediately delete the comment in question burdens any line of defense, which is based on the personal view of morality by the accused lawyer who, even during the hearing, continued to defend what he did.
In the decision, the Disciplinary Court emphasizes the responsibility of lawyers and in particular, when they are in the capacity of representatives of either local associations or other institutionalized bodies of the profession, to act with a view to preserving the prestige and reputation of the profession, but also considering the weight of their responsibility as co-functionaries of justice.
"The expression of opinions referring to sexist attitudes and misogyny constitute offensive and derogatory public speech, may cause intimidation and/or stigmatization and/or reproduce negative stereotypes, especially when they concern and/or are addressed to minors and are in no way in line with the principles of honor and dignity of the profession that lawyers must observe and their duty to the public whose rights they are committed to protect and cannot be tolerated", the decision points out.
Following these findings, he found the lawyer guilty, on whom he will impose a sentence at a later stage after hearing him.

The Police in Limassol arrested a 26-year-old man yesterday afternoon, as part of the investigation of three cases of burglary and theft as well as illegal possession of property.
Specifically, members of the Bicycle Policing located and stopped for control yesterday afternoon in Limassol, the 26-year-old, who had been identified by the members of the Police as the person who committed one of the three investigated cases of burglary and theft.
During the physical search that followed, a sum of money was found in his possession, for which he was not able to give satisfactory explanations and he was arrested for the self-inflicted crime of illegal possession of property.
The 26-year-old was taken to the offices of the Limassol TAE where he was re-arrested by virtue of a court warrant, for the burglary cases, after relevant testimony emerged against him for the other two cases.
He is expected to be brought before the Limassol District Court this morning for the procedure for issuing a detention order.

The Police arrested a 46-year-old man yesterday, as part of an investigation into a case of theft by trick and impersonation, offenses allegedly committed in 2022 in the province of Famagusta.
Another person is still wanted for the same case.
According to the Police, the case concerns conspiracy to commit a felony and theft by trickery.
As reported by a 45-year-old, he was approached by an unknown person, who told him that he would put him in touch with the Prince of Gabon, named Harry, who was reportedly interested in buying his cellar for one million euros.
During one of the meetings with the alleged prince, the latter reportedly told the 45-year-old that, due to problems with the export of money from his country, the money that would be handed over to him had been colored white and that, after appropriate chemical treatment, it would be restored to its original form.
On August 25, 2022, during a meeting they had, the 45-year-old allegedly initially handed over the sum of €89,000 for the alleged discoloration of one million euros.
At some point, the second suspect allegedly told the 45-year-old that he would go to Larnaca in order to bring new chemicals to discolor the banknotes.
Since then, the two suspects have reportedly disappeared.
The TAE of Famagusta continues the examinations to investigate the case.

A seizure of duty-free tobacco products was carried out on September 23, 2026 by officials of the Customs Department, as part of the usual checks for the implementation of the Green Line Regulation, at the Agios Dometios Crossing Point.
Specifically, the officers stopped a vehicle with Turkish Cypriot registration numbers, which was driven by a Turkish Cypriot and four people with English citizenship were riding in it.
During the check, 47 boxes of 200 cigarettes each, as well as packages of tobacco for a rolled cigarette, with a total weight of 1 kg and 500 grams, were found in the luggage of one of the passengers.
The tobacco products did not bear the marking for the harmful effects of smoking in the Greek and Turkish languages, nor the safety feature and the unique traceability code, which is an indication that they were duty-free products.
The tobacco products were confiscated and the prescribed destruction procedure will follow.
Those involved were initially arrested for the flagrante delicto offenses and then released, after their proposal for an out-of-court settlement of the cases was accepted, with the payment of a total amount of €3.500.

On 08/09/2026, the District Court of Nicosia issued a decree of exclusion from sports venues, to a 25-year-old man, during the registration before the Court, for immediate trial, of a case concerning the offenses of assault and causing actual bodily harm, assault on a law enforcement officer during the normal performance of duty, throwing dangerous objects during a match in a sports field and assault during a match, on the pitch of the G.S.P. stadium, during the football match between the teams APOEL and AEL, on September 06, 2026.
With the registration for trial of the case concerning the Law on the Prevention and Suppression of Violence in Sports Venues, the District Court ordered that the 25-year-old defendant be released, with conditions that ensure his presence at the next hearing. At the same time, at the request of the Police, the Court issued a decree to exclude the 25-year-old from the sports venues, until the completion of the trial of the case.
