Pafos Live 30 September 2026
The situation in the region of Polis Chrysochous with the use of motor vehicles by minors seems to be out of any control.
The responsibility for this also lies with the local police station, but first and foremost with the parents and relatives themselves, who allow their children not only to use vehicles without a license and insurance, but also to make modifications to the vehicles.
In yesterday's campaign of the Paphos traffic police, which will be repeated in the coming days, 4 minors, three 16-year-olds and a 17-year-old were found driving cars without holding a driver's license and without insurance coverage.
In two of the four cases, the vehicles did not have registration plates and their bodies were tampered with.
The 4 vehicles, which belong to relatives of the minors, have been confiscated.

A new significant amount of drugs was found today by members of YKAN in Limassol, as part of an operation carried out in an apartment, following relevant information.
According to information from philenews, during the investigation, investigators found about 25 kilograms of ketamine, while a travel suitcase was also found in the apartment, which allegedly contained quantities of cocaine as well as other types of drugs. The count of the quantity of confiscated in the suitcase is in progress.
As part of the operation, the Police proceeded to arrest two Israelis, who are expected to be brought before the Court tomorrow, Wednesday.
YKAN investigations are in full swing, with authorities investigating all possibilities, including whether the new ketamine case is connected to the other major case already before the Court.
It is recalled that today three defendants in the case of about 400 kilograms of ketamine were referred to trial before the Permanent Criminal Court, which will meet for the case in early December. Today, the defense attorneys of the three defendants are expected to speak in relation to the request for their detention.
Update -
More than 27 kilograms of ketamine, as well as smaller quantities of other drugs, were found in an apartment in Limassol.
Specifically, yesterday around 11:30 in the morning, members of YKAN, following information, in collaboration with members of YDAP, searched an apartment in Limassol, in the presence of the two tenants, aged 23 and 24, where they were found:
27 kg and 507 grams of ketamine
377 grams of cannabis
776 grams of mephedrone
269 grams of MDMA
172 grams of cocaine
The 23-year-old and the 24-year-old, during their arrest, attacked the police, resulting in the slight injury of a member of YKAN. The member of YKAN has swelling on the lips and redness in the eye and after receiving first aid he was discharged.
From the investigations that followed, a sum of money amounting to approximately €10,000 was also found, in various banknotes.
The two suspects are expected to appear before the Court today for a detention order.
The examinations are continued by the YKAN Unit in the Limassol district.
At the same time, YKAN has another drug case before it in Limassol, in which a package containing 6,5 kilograms of cannabis was seized today.
The new seizures come at a time when YKAN has put under its microscope important cases of importation and trafficking of large quantities of drugs.
Update:
A quantity of cannabis with a gross weight of 6 kilograms and 300 grams was found in a package delivered to Limassol through a courier company, as part of an operation of theAnti-Drug Service (YKAN).According to the Police, the amount of drugs was found yesterday after evaluating and investigating information from members of YKAN, who proceeded to check the package.
During the investigation, four nylon packages were found inside the package, which, as found by the tests that followed, contained cannabis with a total gross weight of 6 kilograms and 300 grams.
The quantity of drugs was confiscated as evidence, while investigations to identify the persons related to the case are ongoing.
The case is being investigated by the Limassol Unit of the Anti-Drug Service.
The two young men from Israel, aged 23 and 24, who were arrested in Limassol, were in Cyprus for just nine days, having in their possession a total of 27 kilograms of ketamine, as well as significant quantities of other drugs. YKAN investigators are now investigating whether the two suspects are also connected to the previous big ketamine case that is under the microscope of the authorities.
The two suspects were brought before the Limassol District Court today, where their lawyers did not object to their detention for a period of eight days. The Court approved and ordered their pre-trial detention.
According to the evidence put before the Court, the two young men arrived in Cyprus on September 20 as visitors and had a residence permit until December 19. YKAN examinations show that they had rented an apartment in the area of Amathus since September 24.
The case was revealed when, yesterday morning, the owner of the apartment went to the property to find out whether the tenants had left, as their agreed stay ended at 11 am.
The two men were not in the apartment. However, the owner found a travel suitcase, four protein bags and an airtight sealing device. When she checked the suitcase, she found that it contained transparent bags of plant matter and white powder and immediately informed her husband, who called the Police.

Members of YKAN went to the apartment and, with the consent of the owner, proceeded to search.
Inside the suitcase were found, about 341 grams of
cannabis,
about 172 grams of
cocaine, about 2 kilograms and 492 grams of
ketamine, about 776 grams of
mephedrone, about 233 grams of MDMA

The large amount of ketamine, however, was hidden in the four protein bags. From the control of the white powder, it was found that it was a total of 24 kilograms and 280 grams of ketamine. While the total amount found in the apartment amounts to 27 kilograms and 507 grams of ketamine.
The case took on even greater dimensions when, while the members of YKAN were in the apartment, two young men appeared from the internal stairs of the apartment building and headed towards the specific apartment.
The police stopped them for a check and revealed their status. According to the evidence of the case, one attacked a member of YKAN by hitting him in the face, while the second pushed another police officer and tried to run away.
The former was arrested after resisting his arrest, while the latter was stopped nearby and also arrested.
From the check of their details, it was found that they are two Israelis, aged 23 and 24, who have been in Cyprus since September 20. In fact, the owner of the apartment recognized them as the persons to whom she had rented the property on September 24.
During the arrest of the two suspects, a member of YKAN was slightly injured, who suffered swelling of the lips and redness of the eye. After receiving first aid, he was discharged.
New research and another 35 grams of ketamine
The investigators' investigations continued in a second apartment, in the presence of the two suspects. A scattered amount of ketamine of about 35 grams was found there, as well as scraps from protein bags, which seem to be connected to the bags in which the large amount of ketamine was hidden in the Amathus department.
At the same time, the investigations found a sum of about €10,000, in various banknotes.
The two suspects, being questioned orally at the offices of Ykan, chose to observe the right to silence.
A link to another ketamine case is being considered
Of particular interest to YKAN investigators is now whether the new case is linked to the detection of a large amount of ketamine of 390 kilograms that had preceded in Limassol.
The authorities do not rule out the possibility that the two cases are linked, with the investigations being in full swing and an attempt to determine the role of the two young men and the final destination of the drugs.
According to the data under review, YKAN had received information on Tuesday morning that a specific apartment was being used by Israelis for storing and trafficking cocaine.
Today, a search is expected to be carried out in a specific hotel and then in another apartment, where, according to what one of the two suspects reported, he had stayed for two days, after making a reservation through an apartment rental platform.
Investigators continue to gather evidence, while under the microscope are the movements of the two suspects since the day of their arrival in Cyprus, the places where they stayed and their possible contacts on the island. In fact, investigators are looking for associates of the suspects with the examinations turning in specific directions.
The Police in Paphos arrested two persons aged 29 and 18 yesterday, as part of the investigation of cases involving offenses of securing goods with false representations, illegal interference and interception of electronic data and other related offenses.
Specifically, in the context of the investigation of three complaints by the TAE Nicosia, which concerned the use of bank cards without the authorization of their holders to make purchases through an online application, evidence emerged that the illegal transactions were carried out by two persons in Paphos.
Following a coordinated operation carried out yesterday in Paphos during the scheduled receipt of goods that had been ordered in the same way, members of the Intelligence Investigation and Evaluation Service proceeded to the spontaneous arrest of the two suspects for the crime of illegal possession of property.
In a subsequent search of their home, four phones, two electronic devices, as well as fourteen bank cards belonging to other persons were located and confiscated.
From further examinations that followed by the Y.A.&M. it was found that the 29-year-old resides illegally in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus and was therefore re-arrested for this offense.
The two arrested are expected to appear before the Nicosia District Court today for the purpose of issuing a detention order.
The Financial Crime Investigation Team of the TAE Nicosia continues the examinations.
A total of 80 arrests were made during the summer by the authorities of the British Bases. During this period, 700 inspections were also carried out on boats and sea assets and 12 criminal cases were formed.
In a relevant announcement, it is stated that the British Bases Police announced that, during this year's peak summer season, it made 80 arrests, while more than 700 inspections of boats and marine assets were carried out.
During the period June to August, Operation Guardian and Sentinel, in the western and eastern regions of the BB respectively, focused on the coastal areas and the road network surrounding them, where there is increased traffic during the summer months.
Lady's Mile and Kourion beaches, two of the most popular beaches in Cyprus, welcomed more than 700,000 visitors. With the enhanced presence of the Police in the area, 74 arrests were recorded and 12 criminal cases were formed.
As part of the road safety checks, 22 cases of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol were recorded, while in another five cases dangerous driving were recorded.
At the same time, the Naval Unit of the BB Police issued 35 out-of-court settlements in the area of Dhekelia, after carrying out 712 inspections on boats and sea mopeds (jet skis) throughout Cyprus.
As part of Operation Sentinel in the eastern regions, 100 patrols were carried out to protect the coastline, as well as 26 maritime safety campaigns, on the beaches along the Ormidia–Xylofagou coastline, as well as in the Cessac, Fairwinds and Luma areas.
With the completion of the summer operations, Police Officer Melina Papagrigoriou expressed her satisfaction with the results of the operations in both the west and east of Cyprus.
In her statements, she said: "Our coastal areas are a popular destination for residents and visitors throughout the summer, and policing them requires a constant presence both on land and at sea. Our officers were there to assist the public, respond to incidents, and take action when behaviors endangered other people.
Operations Guardian and Sentinel coordinated all these actions and I thank every member of the Police, staff and partner bodies who contributed to their success. The results will be used in our planning for the next summer season."
With the end of seasonal operations and the shift of operational focus from the coastal areas, Police Officer Papagrigoriou stressed that policing in the BB areas continues normally.
As he said: "Daily policing and patrols will continue on both sides of the island, after the completion of seasonal operations, and our police officers will continue to be on standby to detect and prosecute any criminal activity."
The Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca acquitted of the serious charges faced by three persons from Syria, aged 24, 25 and 27, who had been arrested for the attempted murder of a 30-year-old compatriot in Kornos in January 2025.
The attempted murder had been committed on the afternoon of January 9 in front of the eyes of frightened citizens and resulted in the injury of the 30-year-old from gunshots, who managed to escape and go to a private clinic in Limassol. The defendants had been arrested because, as it had been announced, they were connected to two vehicles that allegedly participated in the attempted murder, one of which was found abandoned in Alethriko. The 30-year-old in his testimony had stated that he was in the area from Paphos to meet an unknown person, who wished to buy his vehicle.
The three defendants faced 6 counts of conspiracy to murder, attempted murder, possession and transportation of a firearm, and possession and transportation of explosives. All three had denied guilt with the first stating that he was at work on the day of the incident and the other two saying that they had nothing to do with the offenses in question.
The Permanent Criminal Court stated that the Prosecution based its case on factual testimony and ruled that what was attributed to the three defendants was not proven. "On the basis of the initial version of the Prosecuting Authority, the one presented in terms of the admissible testimony, but also our final findings, Defendants 1, 2 and 3 were not occupants of the perpetrators' vehicle", the decision notes and notes that "it is not possible to make a safe judgment", that they acted as accomplices of the perpetrators with the aim of killing the 30-year-old.
The court was particularly sharp in terms of what was put before it for the third defendant. As noted in the decision, "there was not even an attempt by the Prosecuting Authority to put Defendant 3 at the scene of the crime or, at least, in the wider area of the village of Kornos on the day of the incident in question, nor was he associated, in any way, with the perpetrators, whose identity remains unknown to this day"
It is noted that the first defendant represented himself in court, while the other two were represented by Evangelia Lazaridou and Georgia Michailidou

The 47-year-old accused lawyer is facing a new criminal prosecution, who in recent years has occupied the Justice, as well as the Economic Crime Investigation Office of the TAE Limassol, with theft cases.
The new case against the lawyer was registered and referred yesterday (29/9), to a direct trial before the Permanent Criminal Court of Limassol, following relevant instructions given by the Legal Service.
The accused appeared before the District Court for the referral procedure of the case. He remains free under restrictive conditions and is required to sign a financial guarantee of €100,000.
According to the indictment, he faces 14 offenses related to theft from an agent and money laundering, for the amount of €185.000. The case was set for a hearing before the Criminal Court in November.
According to the complaint made to the Police, the 47-year-old accused, around mid-2023, while she had been appointed by the Limassol District Court as co-administrator of the deceased's estate from Russia and acting in her capacity as a representative of his estate, allegedly extorted the above amount of money on various dates.
According to what was reported, it was money related to the property of the deceased's heirs and was in a bank account. The accused allegedly transferred the money online to her company's account, without having a legal right to do so.
It should be noted that, although the complaint was made in 2023, it was only recently that instructions were given to bring the case to justice. We remind you that the accused had previously engaged the authorities and had faced a criminal case before the Criminal Court for similar offenses.
However, this case was suspended, after the accused paid all the claims of the complainants.
