In the context of investigating the case of locating more than 230 kilograms of narcotic substances in Nicosia, as well as the detection of a pistol, revolver, explosive devices and a large number of firecrackers, the Police proceeded yesterday to arrest a 30-year-old man, by virtue of a court warrant pending against him.
This is the fifth arrest carried out as part of the investigation of this case. Four people are already in custody for the same case, namely a 34-year-old man, a 27-year-old man and two 26-year-old men.
The 30-year-old was taken into custody for the purpose of investigating the case and is expected to appear before the Nicosia District Court today for the issuance of a detention order.

The Police in Nicosia are investigating a case of attempted murder, after the serious injury of a 21-year-old man, who was allegedly attacked with a knife by another person.
According to the Police, around 1:15 in the morning, information was received that the 21-year-old had been taken to Nicosia General Hospital injured.
The young man is in critical condition.
Based on the evidence so far, the 21-year-old was allegedly attacked with a knife by another person.
As part of the investigation of the case, the Police proceeded to arrest two persons. He is a 24-year-old and a 21-year-old.

The presence and action of the Police last night was intense, throughout Cyprus, with organized patrols in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, ensuring public order and increasing the sense of security of the public.
As a result of the preventive police operations, nine persons were arrested for various offences, including illegal possession of property, theft from an official, illegal stay on the territory of the Republic, assault on a police officer and resisting lawful arrest, lighting a fire in the countryside, illegal possession of drugs and failure to appear in court.
As part of these operations, during the night, 547 drivers and 185 passengers were stopped and checked. At the same time, 34 inspections of premises were carried out, with the aim of dealing with phenomena of delinquency, where a complaint arose.
During traffic checks carried out, 332 complaints were made, concerning various traffic violations, while six investigated cases of traffic violations also emerged.
Of the complaints made, 128 concerned exceeding the speed limit, while as part of the police examinations, six vehicles were detained.
188 alcohol tests were carried out, from which eight complaints emerged.
Policing operations, for the prevention and suppression of crime, continue daily, with an increased/enhanced police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action, with the aim of increasing the sense of security of citizens/protecting citizens and ensuring public order.

In cooperation with Europol and the authorities of European countries, the investigations of the Special Investigative Team of the Police Headquarters (Cypriot FBI) continue into the serious case of the arrest of two Norwegians and an Irishman, who allegedly planned the murder of two twin brothers who were coming on vacation to Cyprus.
The three arrived in Cyprus to meet with the alleged executioner, whom they fished out of the dark web. He, however, was an undercover police officer who rushed from Denmark and participated in the operation of the Cypriot FBI. The cooperating authorities are looking for the motives of the planned criminal act, as well as the instigators.
Both targets, who are British and have a criminal past, are missing. That is why Europol, which is conducting tests to identify them, was informed about this. The two, according to the information so far, were in the free area of Famagusta on vacation a few weeks ago and it seems that they intended to return to Cyprus.
So far, according to information from "F", the three arrested, who are under eight-day detention, keep their mouths tightly shut, however, it is believed that they are members of a criminal group and not the instigators of the planned double criminal act. As it was established, one Norwegian is marked in his country and is burdened with convictions for threats and blackmail, while he is wanted for offenses of possession of weapons and threats. It is noted that the Police have requested information from Norway and Ireland about the past of the other two.
The criminal group, as heard before the Famagusta Court last Saturday, had offered the "executor" about €85.000 (650.000 Danish kroner) to murder the two brothers. Discussions took place between the undercover Danish police officer and the principal via signal and the former was even given a ticket to travel from Copenhagen to Cyprus, where he arrived on August 24. He was joined by a team of investigators from Denmark.
The three suspects arrived, meanwhile, in Cyprus in order to hand him a magazine, a motorcycle and money. When they placed money in various places for the "executor" to pick it up, they were put under surveillance and on August 27 they were arrested.
The Police have the suspects' mobile phones under their microscope, while they are also looking for closed surveillance circuits in Ayia Napa, where the Irishman lived, and in Larnaca, where the two Norwegians lived.

Lebanon's General Directorate of State Security announced tonight that it had prevented an operation to illegally transport about 25 Syrian citizens from Lebanon to Cyprus by sea.
According to the announcement, the Directorate of Intelligence and Special Operations received specific information about a team that was preparing to transport Syrian citizens by boat.
After monitoring and on-site investigation, the Lebanese authorities identified one of the alleged people involved, who is referred to by the initials M.A. He is a Syrian citizen residing in Lebanon and allegedly organized the transport of people from Syria to Lebanon and then by sea to Cyprus and from there to other European countries, for a monetary fee.
The suspect was arrested on August 31 in the Nemrin-Diniye district, following instructions from the competent judicial authorities. With his arrest, the planned transport operation was prevented before the departure of the vessel.
During the interrogation, according to the Lebanese State Security, he admitted that he ran a network of illegal human trafficking from Syria to Europe, mainly through Cyprus. It was also found that court warrants were pending against him.
The suspect was taken into custody and the case was referred to the competent judicial authorities in northern Lebanon.

Fourteen people were brought before the "district court" of Kyrenia today which issued 9 "decrees" of three-day detention, while 5 of the suspects were released, but an investigation was ordered against them for the shipwreck that occurred off the coast of Kyrenia. These are three shareholders of the Filo jet company and two employees of the "ports authority". The suspects face charges of causing death by negligence.
As reported in the occupied territories, during the continuation of the process in the "court", which had been interrupted for some time in the morning at the request of the "judge" to appear all 16 suspects for whom "arrest warrants" were issued, new information was given about the circumstances under which this fatal incident took place.

It was also reported that the suspect with the initials S.E., a member of the crew, told the captain that the bow of the ship was broken, with his lawyer stating that he had no knowledge of the ship's technical structure and could not foresee the damage.
The "court" was given information about the technical condition of the ship and the sailing permits and that there was no problem in operating the routes with waves up to 3 meters high.
Information from the "meteorological service" on suitable weather conditions, approval from the Turkish company Turkish Lloyd for the suitability of the ship and inspection documents were also submitted.
In response to a question from the "prosecutor", it became known that the last inspection of the ship was carried out on June 2, 2026 and that it was deemed appropriate.
The "police" stated that the investigation is ongoing and informed the "court" that the ship, which was damaged in an accident about 12 years ago, received a new sailing license in 2024 after repairs.
It was reported that the investigation is also examining the responsibility of the company's shareholders and the employees of the "port authority", since arrest "warrants" were issued for 6 of its employees.
The "court" ordered the three-day detention of the 9 suspects, while at the same time allowing an investigation into whether the company's shareholders are responsible for the incident.
Among the important elements of the investigation are the videos taken by passengers before the sinking of the ship.
It was also reported that the examination of the "immigration records" and passenger lists showed that the ship was not overloaded and there were no adverse weather conditions at sea when the ship left the port.
According to what was said, the approvals for the spare lifeboats and life jackets were given by the "TRNC authorities" and it became known that a person who held a managerial position at the time stated in his testimony that there was no problem with the ship's departure, as long as the permits were full.
It was also reported that a technical examination will be carried out on the part of the ship that is said to have been damaged, with the participation of a team from Turkey.
