Financial assistance that can reach a total of €45,000 for damage to a building and equipment of a privately owned home, as well as compensation for photovoltaics, business premises and vehicles, is provided for in the decision taken today by the Council of Ministers to support those affected by the severe weather phenomena of August 29.
As stated by the Minister of the Interior, Konstantinos Ioannou, the bad weather caused extensive material damage to homes, business premises, agricultural and livestock facilities, vehicles and photovoltaic systems.
The largest extent of damage is recorded in the Nicosia District, where 183 affected houses have been declared so far. In Larnaca, damage was recorded to 12 houses, a livestock property and two vehicles, in Paphos to 12 houses and a business premises, in Limassol to 11 houses and in Famagusta to two houses and a church.
The registration by the District Administrations will continue until next Monday, when the final number of affected premises and vehicles is expected to emerge.
Therefore, taking into account the extent of the damage and the Government's will to provide immediate support to those affected, the Council of Ministers decided today the following criteria for granting financial assistance to those affected on August 29:
-Privately owned permanent residences without insurance: financial assistance equal to 80% of the estimated damage with a maximum amount of €20,000 for damage to the building and financial assistance equal to the estimated damage, with a maximum amount of €15,000 for damage to equipment.
-Photovoltaic system in privately owned permanent residences without insurance: financial assistance equal to 80% of the estimated damage, with a maximum amount of €7,000.
-Commercial premises without insurance: financial assistance equal to 70% of the estimated value, with a maximum amount of €30,000 for damage to the building and financial assistance equal to the estimated damage, with a maximum amount of €10,000 for damage to equipment.
-Vehicles without insurance: financial assistance equal to 75% of the estimated damage, with a maximum amount of €5,000 per vehicle, provided that it has a registration certificate, third-party insurance and a valid MOT or is legally immobilized.
With regard to homes, business premises and vehicles with insurance, assistance equal to the estimated damage will be granted up to the amount of the deductible amount of the insurance.
The aid will only concern buildings that have a building permit from the competent Authority, as well as permanent and licensed constructions.
The Ministry of the Interior is expected to publish a detailed table with the criteria and amounts.
