A campaign to combat mosquitoes is underway, with the aim of protecting public health and limiting their breeding grounds, says the Limassol Municipality, underlining the importance of the contribution of the citizens.
According to an announcement, in cooperation with the State Health Services, systematic inspections are carried out in open spaces and where stagnant water is detected, the necessary measures are taken, such as their drainage or, where necessary, the application of approved biological preparations to combat mosquito larvae.
At the same time, it is added, timely cleaning of open spaces from wild vegetation and removal of useless objects is carried out, thus limiting the places where stagnant water can collect and mosquito breeding grounds can be created.
At the same time, it is emphasized that the removal of even small amounts of stagnant water from private spaces can significantly contribute to the reduction of breeding sites.
In particular, the Municipality calls on citizens to pay special attention when stagnant water accumulates in pot saucers, buckets and other containers, barrels and tanks, old tyres, swimming pools, gutters and other places where water can be retained.
In the event that an increased presence of mosquitoes is observed, in any area within the municipal boundaries, citizens are requested to inform the Department of Public Health and Cleaning of the Limassol Municipality at 25 884590 and 25884555, so that an inspection can be carried out and appropriate measures can be taken, where necessary.
"The protection of public health is a collective responsibility and the cooperation of all is crucial to effectively address the problem," the statement concludes.
