 The Department of Meteorology has issued a new yellow warning for extremely high temperatures in Cyprus.

The warning will come into force today, August 12 at 13:00 and will last for two hours and thirty minutes, i.e. until 15:30.

The maximum temperature will reach 40 degrees Celsius.

The weather forecast in detail

Seasonal low pressure affects the area. From Friday, an unstable air mass is expected.

Today the weather will be mostly clear but at times there will be increased clouds and in the afternoon hours it is possible that isolated rains will fall, mainly in the mountains. Winds will initially be variable, light 3 Beaufort to gradually become southwest to northwest, light to moderate 3 to 4 Beaufort and transient on the south coast, up to strong 5 Beaufort. The sea will be a little rough. The temperature will rise to 40 degrees inland, 31 on the west coast, around 34 on the rest of the coast and 30 degrees in the higher mountains.

In the evening the weather will be mostly clear but locally there will be increased low clouds. The winds will gradually become northwest to northeast and on the north coast southeast, light 3 Beaufort. The sea will be calm to a little rough. The temperature will drop to 22 degrees inland, around 24 on the coast and 20 degrees in the higher mountains.

On Thursday the weather will be mostly clear but at times there will be locally increased clouds and in the afternoon hours isolated rains are possible, mainly in the mountains.

On Friday and Saturday the weather will initially be mostly clear but in the afternoon hours locally increased clouds will develop which are expected to give isolated rains and isolated thunderstorms, mainly in the mountains and in inland areas.

The temperature will not change significantly on Thursday, while on Friday and Saturday it will drop, to fluctuate close to the climatic averages.
