A protest event is being organized this morning by the parents of the children of the Primary School of Tremithousa, on the occasion of the intention of the authorities to remove from the school a prefabricated room used as a classroom. The parents of the children who attend the school complain that instead of the authorities seeing how the school, which operates only with prefabricated classrooms, will be upgraded, they are proceeding with further actions to downgrade the services it provides.
In this context, organized parents and other community officials decided to proceed with a protest outside the school, while the closure of the Paphos-Polis Chrysochous road, at the height of the Tremithousa-Mesogi traffic lights, is also being studied.
The turmoil in the community, located in the northern suburban area of the Municipality of Paphos, arose in the last few days with the information of the Ministry of Education, as the parents complain, that one of the six prefabricated classrooms will be removed from the school of Tremithousa to meet pressing needs in another school. As they claim, in their relevant protest, the answer they received is that modifications will be made to one of the other prefabricated classrooms, in order to serve a larger number of students.
The chairman of the parliamentary Education Committee, Chrysanthos Savvidis, told "F" that he has received angry reactions from parents and other officials of Tremithousa for this plan in the last three days. He described the complaints and reactions as completely justified, pointing out that the Primary School of Tremithousa already holds the sad privilege of having only prefabricated ones as classrooms and now the removal of one of them is justifiably judged as further degradation.
This situation cannot be tolerated, he stressed, calling on those in charge to change their decisions in a rational way.
