The president of EOA Larnaca, Angelos Hadjicharalambous, said that the Organization has responded to calls for the fall of two trees in Drosia and the city center and for the movement of railings and other objects from the SUMP project in the area of Faneromeni. According to Mr. Hadjicharalambous, a coordination center has been set up with the Municipalities of the province, in order to better deal with the incidents.
Tree felling has also been reported in the area of Koshi, Athienou and Lympia. It is noted that in several areas of Larnaca the electricity supply has been cut off, with EAC crews on foot to repair the damage.
In the area of Agios Nikolaos in Avgorou, lightning caused a fire and a power outage.
As the deputy mayor of the municipal district of Avgorou, Panagis Michailas, reported to Filenews, the lightning struck a warehouse of a house, in which a fire broke out. Forces of the fire service and the Police rushed to the scene, while there were no injuries.
Mr. Michailas noted that earlier on Saturday morning there were very severe weather phenomena in the area, resulting in small-scale flooding.
EAC crews are at the scene, working to repair the damage. According to the initial information, electricity is expected to be restored within about two hours.

As he stated in his statements to KYPE, in the areas where the phenomenon was more intense, damage to a greenhouse was recorded, while problems were also caused to photovoltaic installations.
Damage was also reported on the beaches of Pomos, Argaka and Agia Marina, mainly to umbrellas and sunbeds, which were affected by the strong winds.
Regarding Polis Chrysochous, Mr. Papachristofi stated that, according to the information so far, no damage has been recorded.
Strong winds prevailed in the wider area, as a result of which trees fell in various places, causing problems to the road network. Already, crews of the Municipality have started cleaning and removing the fallen trees, in order to restore the safe passage of vehicles.
The Mayor called on the public to exercise special caution during severe weather events, to limit unnecessary movements and to remain in safe places until the phenomena subside.
Strong winds and rainfall in the area lasted about 40 minutes, causing problems and damage in several places, he concluded.
