Computer science students from 19 leading universities internationally are at Neapolis University Paphos as of today, participating in the Pafos Camp, a special preparatory and simulation workshop that started today in collaboration with the Jetbrains organization, in order to prepare for the global competition in this field.
Speaking to "F", Stavros Tsiakkouris, Senior Officer at the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, who attended today's opening ceremony, stressed that the Deputy Ministry supports such actions and initiatives, wanting to prove that Cyprus can be a destination that attracts such talented students, but also that there is an ecosystem here that supports and favours technology in Cyprus.
We hope that soon, he said, we will give the opportunity to students of this level to come and work permanently in Cyprus in the field of technology. We are promoting the creation of an artificial intelligence hub in our country and we seek to approach such and level of talent and convince them to return here permanently.
The Vice Rector for Research and Innovation at Neapolis University Pafos, Savvas Hadjichristofis, told "F" that the Pafos Camp conference hosted by Neapolis Paphos is attended by 76 students from 19 leading universities internationally, including Cambridge and Oxford.
Industry-leading students, he said, are preparing for ICPC's global programming competition. We offer these students an environment, said the Vice-Rector of Neapolis University Pafos, in which they can simulate the competitiveness of this global competition and prepare, while enjoying the beauties of Paphos.
The ceremony was attended and welcomed by the Mayor of Paphos, Angelos Onisiforou and the President of DEFA, Giorgos Pistentis.
