The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra is honoured to welcome the superb violinist Diana Tishchenko, one of the most compelling violinists of her generation, under the baton of the Orchestra’s Artistic Director, Myron Michailidis.
Praised for her genuinely distinctive, individual voice, radiant tone and expressive depth, Diana Tishchenko is the 1st Grand Prix winner at the legendary Long-Thibaud-Crespin International Competition in Paris, and recipient of the Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture for her outstanding contribution to the arts.
Few works capture the depth of human emotion as powerfully as this programme. Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings is often regarded as one of the saddest and most moving pieces ever written. Unfolding a poignant arc of swell and release, it has become an enduring symbol of collective remembrance and consolation.
Barber’s Violin Concerto combines lyrical elegance with dazzling virtuosity. The first two movements unfold with warmth, tenderness and reflective beauty, while the electrifying finale bursts forth with relentless energy, placing the soloist at the centre of a thrilling musical tour de force.
Tchaikovsky’s Symphony no. 5 is one of the composer’s most compelling and emotionally charged masterpieces. Unified by its recurring “fate” motif, the symphony charts a dramatic journey from darkness to light, transforming a sombre opening idea into a powerful and triumphant conclusion.
