On Saturday, August 15, the risk of forest fires exploding and spreading will be at the "Red Alert" level, due to the mass exodus of the public to the forests for the feast of the Fifteenth of August, according to the Department of Forests.
In a statement, the Department warmly appeals to the public who will venture into the forest areas to be especially careful and to completely avoid actions and activities that may cause a fire.
In particular, it calls on the public to avoid lighting fires, the use of power tools that produce sparks or flame, as well as throwing cigarette butts and lit matches.
The Department of Forests emphasizes that lighting a fire for food preparation is allowed only on the grills of the picnic areas.
He also emphasizes that causing a fire, according to the Forests Law and the Prevention and Extinguishing of Fires in the Countryside Law, is an offense that carries severe penalties.
He calls on anyone who notices smoke or fire to call immediately 1407, for the Department of Forests, or 112, for the Fire Service.
