The percentage of people aged 16 and over who used tobacco products and related products daily in Cyprus stood at 22.6% in 2025, according to data published on Wednesday by Eurostat.
Cyprus' share was higher than the EU average, which stood at 16.5%. Compared to 2022, when the corresponding percentage in Cyprus was 23.3%, a decrease of 0.7 percentage points was recorded.
According to Eurostat, the products recorded include tobacco products and related products, such as e-cigarettes, nicotine pouches and heated tobacco products.
In Cyprus, 32.3% of men aged 16 and over used tobacco products and related products on a daily basis in 2025, while the corresponding percentage among women stood at 13.3%.
At EU level, in 2025 16.5% of people aged 16 and over used tobacco and related products on a daily basis. This percentage was slightly reduced compared to the 17.5% recorded in 2022.
The majority of people in the EU, 77.5%, did not use such products or had not used them in the 12 months prior to data collection.
Figures show that in the EU, 20.8% of men used tobacco and related products on a daily basis, compared to 12.6% of women.
Both percentages decreased slightly compared to 2022, when 22.2% of men and 13.1% of women used such products daily.
By age group, the highest proportion of daily users of tobacco and related products in the EU was recorded among people aged 35 to 49, at 21.3%.
This was followed by people aged 25 to 34, with 19.9%, and people aged 50 to 64, with 19.8%.
The lowest rates were recorded in the younger and older age groups, with 12.1% and 9.1% respectively.
Among EU countries, the highest rates of daily use of tobacco and related products were recorded in Bulgaria with 26.3%, Sweden with 23.9% and Croatia with 23.6%.
The lowest rates were recorded in the Netherlands with 9.9%, Ireland with 11.7%, Belgium with 13.6% and Luxembourg with 13.8%.
According to Eurostat, in 17 EU countries the share of people who used tobacco and related products on a daily basis decreased between 2022 and 2025.
The largest decreases were recorded in Spain and Luxembourg, by 2.1 percentage points in each country. In contrast, the largest increases were recorded in Croatia and Lithuania by 2.7 percentage points in each country.
