EOA - THE PROBLEM WITH WATER IN NEO CHORIO IS FOUR TIMES GREATER THAN IN THE ENTIRE CHRYSOCHOUS DISTRICT - Pafos Press 13/8
The water supply network in the core of Neo Chorio is a serious problem, with frequent breakdowns and leaks demonstrating, according to the President of the Paphos EOA Charalambos Pittokopitis, the need for immediate intervention.
As he mentioned, the Neo Chorio area, in terms of water supply, is divided into three parts: the core of the community, the redevelopment and the coastal area from Latsi to Loutra.
The most serious problem is located in the core, where the network is outdated and worn out, resulting in large and frequent leaks.
A characteristic of the situation, according to Mr. Pittokopitis, is the fact that approximately 80% of the damage recorded in the Municipality of Polis Chrysochous is located in Neo Chorio, while the remaining 20% concerns the other 13 districts.
The President of the EOA also referred to the problems inherited by the new Organization from the previous water supply management regime in the Paphos district, noting that each Municipality and community operated until recently as a separate water supply authority.
As he argued, despite the significant revenues from the water supply, limited investments were made in basic infrastructure, such as networks and tanks, in the past.
The EOA, according to him, has now prioritized the replacement of the problematic network in Neo Chorio.
As he announced, before the end of the year, the replacement of approximately 2.5 kilometers of pipes within the core of the community is expected to proceed, with the aim of limiting damage and water losses and improving the water supply to the area.
