The fires in Paphos were malicious
The 5 forest fires that broke out one after the other at 12:40 on the Prodromi to Arodes road in the Paphos district were immediately dealt with and brought under full control at 13:45 on Saturday. The fires burned a total area of 4 acres of wild low vegetation.
According to an announcement by the Forestry Department, 25 people from the Forestry Department participated in the extinguishing operation with 5 fire trucks, a tanker truck and a chainsaw truck. In addition, 4 people from the Fire Department with 2 fire trucks as well as a private individual with his agricultural tractor also contributed to the extinguishing.
The fires were malicious and are being investigated, the post concludes.

Firearms and a number of cartridges were located yesterday by the Police, in an open area of the Nicosia district.
The weapons were located yesterday at around 2.30pm, in an open area, next to the old Nicosia - Troodos road, in the Koutrafa area, following an evaluation of relevant information received by the Police.
Specifically, the following were located:
A semi-automatic weapon
Two pistols
Two silencers
Three magazines
66 cartridges of various calibres.
All of the above were received by the Police and will be sent for scientific examinations.

The presence and action of the Police was intense last night, throughout Cyprus, with the conduct of organized patrols in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, ensuring public order and increasing the public's sense of security.
The result of the preventive police operations was the arrest of ten persons for various offenses, such as illegal possession of drugs, illegal stay in the Republic, driving under the influence of alcohol, etc.
In the context of these operations, during the night, 684 vehicles were stopped for inspection and 870 persons who were riding in them were checked. At the same time, 67 inspections were carried out on premises with the aim of dealing with delinquency phenomena, during which 13 complaints were filed.
During the traffic controls carried out, 389 complaints were made, concerning various traffic violations, while 12 cases of traffic violations were also investigated.
Of the complaints made, 98 concerned exceeding the speed limit, while in the context of police examinations, 14 vehicles were seized. 206 alcohol tests were carried out, from which 31 complaints arose, as well as 35 preliminary drug tests with one positive result.
Policing operations, for the prevention and suppression of crime, continue daily, with increased/enhanced police presence, targeted checks and direct operational action, with the aim of increasing the sense of security of citizens/protecting citizens and ensuring public order.

The Fire Service responded to three fires in the Nicosia district, according to a statement by Press Spokesperson Andreas Kettis.
The first fire, with heavy black smoke visible from areas of Nicosia, broke out in the occupied area of Gerolakko.
The Fire Service also responded to a fire in dry grass, wild vegetation and brush near the community of Menikos.
Five staffed fire engines from Nicosia were mobilized to extinguish it, while two other vehicles from the Forestry Department and a Portable Fire Unit from the Civil Defense also contributed to the operation.
The volunteer groups "Atlas", "Zias" and SupportCY also contributed to the operation, while the two firefighting aircraft that were on patrol carried out water drops.
The fire was extinguished and limited to an area of one hectare.
According to a recent update by Andreas Kettis, following the fire in the Menikos area, as well as information that reached the Fire Service about individuals who were allegedly carrying out suspicious actions with the possible intention of causing a fire, the Service has intensified its patrols.
All information has been forwarded to the Police for further examination.
Later, a second fire broke out in dry grass and a ravine with piles of garbage near the Ergaten community.
Three staffed fire engines from Nicosia stations responded to extinguish it, while two firefighting aircraft attempted to contain the fire.
The Fire Department calls on citizens, if they observe suspicious movements or actions that may indicate an intention to cause a fire, to immediately inform both the Fire Department and the nearest Police Station.

The body of an 88-year-old British man was found inside a burnt-out vehicle on a dirt road in Avgorou on Saturday after a fire engulfed the car.
According to local media reports, the man, who lived in Pachna, had travelled to the area with his domestic worker to visit a dog shelter in the Famagusta district.
The reports said the pair became stranded after the vehicle’s wheels became stuck on a dirt road. The man is said to have made repeated attempts to free the vehicle before a fire broke out and spread from nearby reed beds to the car.
According to the reports, the man told the domestic worker to leave the vehicle and seek help before the blaze intensified.
His dog also died in the fire.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.
