In the context of investigating the case of locating more than 230 kilograms of narcotic substances in Nicosia, as well as the detection of a pistol, revolver, explosive devices and a large number of firecrackers, the Police proceeded yesterday to arrest a 30-year-old man, by virtue of a court warrant pending against him.
This is the fifth arrest carried out as part of the investigation of this case. Four people are already in custody for the same case, namely a 34-year-old man, a 27-year-old man and two 26-year-old men.
The 30-year-old was taken into custody for the purpose of investigating the case and is expected to appear before the Nicosia District Court today for the issuance of a detention order.

Members of the Police arrested a 39-year-old man on Saturday night, pursuant to a court warrant, as part of the investigation of a case of attempted burglary of a house, committed in Larnaca, on 28/08/2026. The 39-year-old was also arrested by the members of the Police for the self-inflicted crime of possession of burglary tools.
The attempted burglary of a house, according to the data under investigation, was committed shortly before 5.00 pm on 28/08/2026. From the examinations carried out by the TAE Larnaca, evidence emerged against the 39-year-old, on the basis of which a court warrant for his arrest was issued.
Members of OPE Larnaca located the 39-year-old around 11.00 pm yesterday 29/08/2026 and proceeded to arrest him, pursuant to the court warrant.
In a subsequent investigation, the members of the Police found in a backpack owned by the 39-year-old, burglary tools, such as a smirill, a cutter, and screwdrivers, as a result of which the 39-year-old was also arrested for the self-inflicted crime of possession of burglary tools.

Seven arrests were made overnight by the Police for a number of offenses, as part of targeted preventive operations.
As a result of the preventive police operations, seven persons were arrested for various offenses, such as impersonation, common assault, driving under the influence of alcohol, drunkenness, causing concern, assault on a police officer, etc.
As part of these operations, during the night, 504 drivers and 194 passengers were stopped and checked. At the same time, 41 inspections of premises were carried out, with the aim of dealing with phenomena of delinquency, where 11 complaints emerged.
During traffic checks carried out, 297 complaints were made, concerning various traffic violations, while 12 investigated cases of traffic violations also emerged.
Of the complaints made, 151 concerned exceeding the speed limit, while as part of the police examinations, 13 vehicles were detained.
202 alcohol tests were carried out, from which eight complaints emerged, while two cases of driving under the influence of drugs also emerged, after preliminary drug tests.
Policing operations, for the prevention and suppression of crime, continue daily, with an increased/enhanced police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action, with the aim of increasing the sense of security of citizens/protecting citizens and ensuring public order.

In cooperation with Europol and the authorities of European countries, the investigations of the Special Investigation Team of the Police Headquarters (Cypriot FBI) continue into the serious case of the arrest of 2 Norwegians and an Irishman, who allegedly planned the murder of two twin brothers who were coming on vacation to Cyprus. The three arrived in Cyprus to meet with the alleged executioner, whom they fished out of the dark web. He, however, was an undercover Police officer who rushed from Denmark and participated in the operation of the Cypriot FBI, which lasted several days.
According to information from filenews, efforts were made to identify the targets of the planned criminal act, who are British and have a criminal past. This, however, was not possible and Europol, which is conducting tests to identify them, was informed. The two, according to the information so far, were in the free area of Famagusta on vacation a few weeks ago and it seems that they intended to return to Cyprus.
So far, the three arrested, who are under eight-day detention, are keeping their mouths tightly shut, however, it is believed that they are members of a criminal group and not the instigators of the planned double criminal act. As it was established, one Norwegian is marked in his country and is charged with convictions for threats and blackmail, while he is wanted for offenses of possession of weapons and threats. It is noted that the Police have requested information from Norway and Ireland about the past of the other two.
The criminal group, as heard before the Famagusta Court last Saturday, had offered the "executor" about €85.000 (650.000 Danish kroner) to murder the two brothers. Discussions took place between the Danish police officer ("executor") and the principal via signal and he was given, in fact, a ticket to travel from Copenhagen to Cyprus, where he arrived on August 24. He was joined by a team of investigators from Denmark.
The three suspects meanwhile arrived in Cyprus in order to hand him a magazine, a motorcycle and money. When they placed money in various places for the "executor" to pick it up, they were put under surveillance and on August 27 they were arrested.
The Police have the suspects' mobile phones under their microscope, while they are also looking for closed surveillance circuits in Ayia Napa, where the Irishman lived, and in Larnaca, where the two Norwegians lived. So far, however, according to competent sources, the motives for the planned murders have not been clarified.

The deadly shipwreck that occurred on Sunday (20/08/26) in Kyrenia is taking on criminal dimensions, as nine people have already been taken to the "court" of the occupied territories, while arrest warrants have been issued for a total of 16 people.
Among other things, they are charged with "causing death by negligence", while at the same time the investigation carried out by the Department of Criminal Investigations of Kyrenia is underway.
According to the Turkish Cypriot press, 9 people were initially detained, but the hearing was adjourned for 11:30 a.m., in order to allow time for the remaining 7 to be brought before the "court".
The suspects include the ship's captain, crew, company employees and port personnel. In fact, according to the reports, more than 100 people have been interrogated and footage from cameras related to the incident is also being examined.
The initial statements of the ship's crew reportedly indicated that "the front part of the ship was detached." Technical investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.
The investigation also examined the technical condition of the ship and the necessary permits before its departure. The ship, according to the relevant data, had all the necessary permits, which had been issued by Turkish Lloyd, the "Port Authority" and the "Department of Meteorology".
Forensic and technical investigations into the accident, as well as search and rescue operations, are underway.

Yesterday 30/08/2026, the 39-year-old was brought before the Larnaca District Court, which issued a three-day detention order, for the purposes of police examinations.
Shortly after 10 am today, members of the Larnaca OPE also located the 33-year-old and proceeded to arrest him, by virtue of the court warrant issued against him.
