As part of the ongoing actions of the Anti-Narcotics Service (YKAN), in cooperation with the Customs Authorities, for the detection and seizure of narcotic substances imported or attempted to be imported into the Republic of Cyprus, a quantity of cannabis, with a total weight of approximately 23 kilograms, was located and confiscated today.
Specifically, today at noon, Customs officials, at the suggestion of members of the Anti-Drug Service, stopped a 36-year-old man, who arrived at Larnaca airport from a third country, for checking.
During a search of his luggage, 42 black nylon packages, which contained about 23 kilograms of dry cannabis plant material, were located and confiscated.
The 36-year-old was arrested for flagrante delicto offenses and taken into custody.

The Police arrested 20 people as part of targeted preventive operations.
As a result of the preventive police operations, 20 persons were arrested for various offenses, such as illegal stay in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, carrying knives, illegal possession of drugs, burglary and theft, failure to appear in Court, fine warrants, etc.
As part of these operations, during the night, 598 drivers and 204 passengers were stopped and checked. At the same time, 28 inspections of premises were carried out, with the aim of dealing with phenomena of delinquency, where six complaints emerged.
During traffic checks carried out, 201 complaints were made, concerning various traffic violations, while 15 investigated cases of traffic violations also emerged.
Of the complaints made, 70 complaints from drivers for exceeding the speed limit stand out, while as part of the police examinations, 29 vehicles were detained.
350 alcohol tests were carried out, from which 29 complaints emerged, while one case of driving under the influence of drugs also emerged, after preliminary drug tests.
Policing operations, for the prevention and suppression of crime, continue daily, with an increased/enhanced police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action, with the aim of increasing the sense of security of citizens/protecting citizens and ensuring public order.

Members of the Police in the two districts proceeded to the arrest of a suspect for burglary of a house in Larnaca, as well as to the investigation of four cases of burglary after the arrest of a suspect in Nicosia, while another suspect in a case of burglary of a house was arrested by members of the Police in the province of Limassol.
In Larnaca, around 12:45 yesterday afternoon, information was received that an unknown man is illegally inside the house. Members of the Police went to the area, where they located the 66-year-old inside the house and proceeded to arrest him.
A second case of burglary of the same house, which was reported on August 13, is being investigated against the 66-year-old. According to the complaint, property was stolen from the house, which remains uninhabited, such as chairs, furniture, chandeliers, and electricity cables, among others.

In Nicosia, after a complaint was submitted to the Police for burglary and theft, members of the Nicosia Police Department proceeded to arrest a 22-year-old man, after locating in his possession, the stolen property.
According to the evidence under review, the burglary was committed on August 13, with the owner of the house reporting around 11.45 a.m. yesterday, the theft of a laptop, an electronic game console, and a bank card.
From the investigations carried out by the members of the Nicosia Police Department, evidence emerged against the 22-year-old. In a search carried out at his home around 12.30 noon yesterday, the members of the TAE found two bank cards in the name of the complainant, as well as a laptop and a game console, which is believed to be the stolen property. A watch was also found in the 22-year-old's home, which is also being investigated as to whether it is stolen property.
Interrogated by members of the Police, the 22-year-old also admitted to committing three burglaries, committed in another residence, in Nicosia, in the period between 02 and 12 August. According to a complaint filed with the Police by the owner of the house, money and a watch were stolen from the residence, of the same brand as the watch found in the home of the 22-year-old suspect.
The Burglary Unit of the TAE Nicosia continues the examinations.

An accident at sea occurred at noon on Saturday in Protaras, when a jet ski, which was driven by a 17-year-old girl, collided with a towed water sport object.
According to the Police, there were five people on board the inflatable trailer.
Two people were injured in the collision, a 48-year-old man and a seven-year-old girl. The 7-year-old was taken to Makarios Hospital for treatment.
The Police are investigating the circumstances and causes of the accident.
