The presence and action of the Police last night was intense, throughout Cyprus, with organized patrols in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, ensuring public order and increasing the sense of security of the public.
As a result of the preventive policing operations, nine persons were arrested for various offenses, such as, among others, burglary of a building and theft, drunkenness, insult and causing concern in a public place, illegal stay on the territory of the Republic, as well as driving under the influence of alcohol.
As part of these operations, during the night, 620 vehicles were stopped for inspection and 871 persons on board were checked. At the same time, 57 inspections of premises were carried out, with the aim of dealing with phenomena of delinquency, from which nine complaints emerged.
During traffic checks carried out, 353 complaints were made, concerning various traffic violations, while 18 investigated cases of traffic violations also emerged. As part of the police examinations, 21 vehicles were detained.
Of the complaints made about traffic violations, 79 complaints concerned exceeding the speed limit and 25 complaints related to driving under the influence of alcohol. Three cases of driving under the influence of drugs also emerged, after preliminary drug tests. For driving under the influence of alcohol, 338 checks were carried out on vehicle drivers, while for driving under the influence of drugs, eight driver checks were carried out.
Policing operations, for the prevention and suppression of crime, continue daily, with an enhanced police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action, with the aim of protecting citizens and ensuring public order.

Targeted traffic checks were carried out by the police in the province of Paphos in the last three days. The aim was to prevent road traffic collisions, while the company also aimed to identify drivers who do not comply with traffic laws and regulations.
From Friday until last night, 270 complaints were made, of which:
- 8 for alcohol
- 2 drug tests
- 66 speeding
- 86 personal mobility devices
In one case, an operator of such a device tested positive for a drug.

Tobacco products and large sums of money were found in the possession of a 34-year-old man and confiscated after a police investigation. The 34-year-old was arrested to facilitate investigations.
Around 11.50 p.m. yesterday, members of the Motorized Immediate Action Unit (M.M.A.D.) stopped, for a check, a vehicle moving on a road in Ayia Napa driven by the 34-year-old.
During the investigation that followed, sums of money amounting to €21,760 and €3,795 respectively were found in the vehicle and in the driver's possession.
Further investigation also revealed that there were tobacco products in the vehicle without the Republic of Cyprus marking. Specifically, 30 packages of tobacco of various brands were found in the luggage compartment.
The 34-year-old was arrested for the spontaneous offenses of illegal possession of property and illegal possession of tobacco products and was taken into custody to facilitate investigations.

As a result of the preventive police operations, nine persons were arrested for offenses such as, illegal stay in the territory of the Republic, reckless and dangerous driving, possession of burglary tools and illegal possession of property, illegal possession of drugs, illegal possession of property and tobacco products, causing concern, disturbing the peace and assault on a police officer, etc.
As part of these operations, during the night, 596 drivers and 144 passengers were stopped and checked. At the same time, 51 inspections of premises were carried out, with the aim of dealing with phenomena of delinquency, where two complaints emerged.
During traffic checks carried out, 370 complaints were made, concerning various traffic violations, while 26 investigated cases of traffic violations also emerged.
Of the complaints made, 122 complaints from drivers for exceeding the speed limit stand out, while as part of the police examinations, 19 vehicles were detained.
100 alcohol tests were carried out, where five complaints emerged, while five drivers tested positive in preliminary drug tests.

A case of motorcycle theft as well as traffic offenses is being investigated by the Police in Larnaca, against a 36-year-old.
Specifically, shortly after noon yesterday, a member of the Traffic Headquarters signalled a motorcycle driver on Artemidos Avenue in Larnaca to stop for a check.
The driver of the motorcycle failed to stop and after developing speed by driving recklessly and dangerously on the road network of the city, he crashed into a railing, as a result of which the motorcycle stopped, while the driver fled.
A member of the Traffic Police, chased the driver on foot, whom he then arrested for flagrante delicto. From a check of the driver's details, it was found that he was a 36-year-old, who does not hold a driver's license, while he refused to undergo a drug test.
From subsequent examinations, it was found that the motorcycle had been stolen last Thursday (06/08/2026), from Larnaca. The 36-year-old was then taken to Larnaca General Hospital, where he was found to have suffered leg fractures.
The arrested person was then charged in writing with the theft of the motorcycle as well as various traffic offenses he committed and was then released, to be summoned later before a court.
The Kiti Police Station and the Larnaca Minor Offenses Department continue the examinations.

On 8/8/2026, officials of the Customs Department at Larnaca Airport, after evaluating information, located 5 passengers with British citizenship, before their departure to Manchester, United Kingdom, with their luggage containing large quantities of roll-your-own tobacco, whose packaging did not bear the marking for the harmful effects of smoking in Greek and Turkish, but neither did the security feature and the unique traceability code, indications that they were duty-free.
Specifically:
- A total of 300 packages of 50 grams each (a total of 15 kg) were found in the luggage of the first passenger.
- A total of 235 packages of 50 grams each (a total of 11 kg and 750 grams) were found in the luggage of the second passenger.
- A total of 300 packages of 50 grams each (a total of 15 kg) were found in the luggage of the third passenger.
- A total of 360 packages of 50 grams each (a total of 18 kg) were found in the luggage of the fourth passenger
- A total of 300 packages of 50 grams each (a total of 15 kg) were found in the luggage of the fifth passenger.
The 5 passengers were arrested for flagrante delicto, while their luggage and contents (a total of 74 kilograms and 750 grams of tobacco) were confiscated. Today, all 5 were brought before the Larnaca District Court, which issued a 2-day detention order.

Two drivers of vehicles, who were involved in separate road collisions, on Saturday in the province of Nicosia, were found positive in a driving test under the influence of alcohol, with an indication of 139μg%ml and 82μg%ml, as a result of which they were arrested for the purpose of police examinations. A third driver of a vehicle, who was also involved in a road collision, on Saturday in the province of Famagusta, refused to undergo a driving test under the influence of alcohol, as a result of which she was arrested for the purpose of police examinations, while the Police proceeded to suspend the validity of her driver's license.
The first road collision happened around 5.00 pm yesterday, when under circumstances investigated by the Police, a 43-year-old truck driver lost control of his vehicle, which deviated from its course and crashed into the fence and wall of a house, on the right side of the road, in an area of the Nicosia district. The impact also caused damage to the vehicle parking lot of a second neighbouring residence.
Members of the Police, specifically the Nicosia Traffic Police, visited the scene for examinations and subjected the 43-year-old driver to a breathalyzer test, with a reading of 139μg%ml instead of up to 22 which is the allowed limit. The 43-year-old was arrested for the crime of driving under the influence of alcohol and was taken into custody for the purpose of police examinations.
The Nicosia Traffic Department continues the examinations.
The second road collision in the province of Nicosia happened shortly after 8.30 pm yesterday, when under circumstances that are being investigated, the car driven by a 50-year-old man, collided with the car driven by a 40-year-old man.
The scene was visited for examinations by members of the local Police Station of Peristerona and the Morphou Traffic Police. In a driving test under the influence of alcohol, which the two drivers underwent, the 50-year-old was found positive, with an indication of 82μg%ml instead of up to 22 which is the allowed limit, as a result of which he was arrested for the purpose of police examinations.
The Peristerona Police Station continues the examinations.
In the province of Famagusta, on a road in the Protaras area, in Paralimni, around 8.00 in the evening, under circumstances that are being investigated, a car driven by a 43-year-old woman collided with a car driven by a 42-year-old man.
Members of the Police went to the scene for examinations, with the 42-year-old undergoing a breathalyzer test with zero reading. The 43-year-old, who showed symptoms of intoxication, refused to give a sample for a driving test under the influence of alcohol, as a result of which she was arrested for the purpose of police examinations, while at the same time the Police proceeded to suspend the validity of her driver's license.
The 43-year-old was taken to the Paralimni Police Station, where she was also arrested for the self-inflicted crime of causing concern in a public place. She was released from her detention shortly before 11.30 pm, to be summoned at a later stage.

On 5/8/2026, officials of the Customs Department working at the Post Office Parcel Exchange at Larnaca Airport, proceeded to a physical inspection of a package originating in the USA, which had been selected by the Customs Risk Management System and had been declared to contain 3 packages of children's toys (cards of a well-known cartoon brand) and with a total weight of 4.2 kg.
During the inspection carried out on the package in front of the Postal Operator, the 3 packages were found, which, however, instead of the declared content of the children's cards, were found to contain a total of 48 vaping devices (Vapes) of various flavours (16 devices in each package), which had a declared content of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) at a content of 89% – 1,517.65mg per package and Cannabidiol (CBD) at a content of 7.49% – 3.21mg per package, thus having a total percentage of active cannabinoids (TAC – Total Active Cannabinoids) at 96.49%.
The Anti-Drug Service was immediately notified, members of which went to the checkpoint. The package with its contents was confiscated by the Customs Department and handed over to the members of YKAN, who, after issuing a relevant warrant, proceeded on Friday morning to arrest a person in the province of Nicosia who is said to be the recipient of the package. The further investigation of the case continues by YKAN - Nicosia Unit.

The senior judge of the British Bases rejected the request of the 30-year-old from Bulgaria to be granted permission to attend the funeral of his children, 8 and 10 years old, who were found dead in their stepmother's car in Xylofagou on June 28. He also decided that the accused remain in custody.
The BB confirmed on Monday morning (8/10) "that the senior judge has now informed all parties involved that the request for release on bail of the father of the two boys who were found dead in a car in Xylofagou has been rejected". Therefore, they say, "he will remain in police custody." It is noted that the British Bases did not provide details as to the reasoning for the decision.
Meanwhile, the children's bodies remain in the BB for more than a month and are expected to be transported to Bulgaria. The decision paves the way for the transfer of the bodies, which will be done at the expense of the Cypriot government.
It is recalled that the two siblings had been left unattended, since the father rushed to work in Limassol on the morning of June 28, while his 38-year-old partner, who had been arrested, but was released along the way, did the same.
The lawyer of the 30-year-old, Christos Theodoulou, argued that the children were in the custody of the defendant's brother and cousin and claimed that they came to Cyprus because their mother did not want them. "The father had two options, either to leave them to the state, or to bring them to Cyprus," Mr. Theodoulou had said. The 30-year-old's lawyer had requested that the 30-year-old be released, conditionally, and that he go to the funeral of his children either accompanied by BB police officers or accompanied by police officers of the Republic of Cyprus.
The representative of the Prosecution Authority categorically rejected that there is a legal mechanism that allows the execution of orders of the BB Court by the Republic of Cyprus. Cypriot para powerlifting Paralympian Maria Markou has reported a serious incident at her home while she was abroad representing Cyprus, saying an unknown person broke into the property and stole her scooter.
Markou, who is also Cyprus’s baton bearer for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, said in a social media post that an unknown person had attempted to enter her home in the Agios Spyridonas area of Limassol and, on a second occasion, managed to gain access and steal the scooter.
She published a photograph and video and appealed to anyone who recognises the person shown to contact her and help identify them.

“In the early hours of 28 July 2026, between 2.45 am and 3.02 am, while I was abroad representing Cyprus at the Commonwealth Games, an unknown person attempted twice, within the space of a few days, to enter my home in the Agios Spyridonas area of Limassol (Zakaki).
“The second time, he managed to enter the property and steal my scooter. The photograph and video clearly show the face of the perpetrator. To this day, he has not been found. If anyone recognises him or has any information that could help identify him, please contact me immediately.
“The issue is not only the theft of the scooter. What is more serious is that over the past few months there have been repeated attempts to break into my home, as well as other incidents in the neighbourhood. We now live every day with the fear that someone could break into our home again, as some people enter houses and steal whatever they find without being disturbed, with no apparent meaningful consequences and no one stopping them.
“I am a person with a disability, and the feeling that there is no meaningful protection is particularly worrying. Today it may be me; tomorrow it could be an elderly person or anyone unable to protect themselves.
“Please share this post so that it reaches as many people as possible and, above all, someone who may recognise this person and help identify him.
