The Attorney General of the Republic gave instructions for the criminal prosecution of the 37-year-old father for the tragic case of the death of his three-year-old child in a hotel in Paphos, during which the child lost his life when during their game he fell into the void from the fourth floor of the hotel in which they were staying.
After studying and evaluating the existing testimony, the Prosecutor today gave instructions for the criminal prosecution of the father for the criminal offense of causing death due to a reckless, or dangerous act.
Today it was also revealed that during the toxicological tests carried out on the 37-year-old after the tragic accident, a quantity of alcohol was found in his body, a fact that will be evaluated by the court during the trial of the case. However, the Police do not give specific numbers regarding the quantity.
The 37-year-old was brought before the Paphos District Court a while ago, which set the hearing for July 31 at 10.00am.
The court ordered that the father be released on parole until the trial date of the case. In particular, the following conditions were imposed on him:
- Deposit of €20,000 in cash
- To be placed on the stop list
- To hand over their travel documents
- To sign once a week at the Paphos Central Police Station
- To prohibit his passage through barricades
- To declare to the Police his/her full residence address.
The 37-year-old fulfilled these conditions and was released until July 31.
The unprecedented tragedy took place on the afternoon of Sunday, July 12, at the hotel in the coastal area of Chloraka, where just a few hours earlier the British family had stayed for vacation.
Police examinations revealed that the three-year-old boy fell into the void while he was with his 37-year-old father and they were playing, in the corridor of the fourth floor where their room was, waiting for the elevator to take them to the restaurant. The three-year-old left his father's hands in a rare moment of misfortune and fell into the void through an open window in front of them.
An ambulance from Paphos Hospital was called to the scene, but when the nurses arrived at the scene they found that the child was not recovering. At the Paphos Hospital where he was taken, the doctors on duty pronounced him dead.
Members of the Paphos TAE arrived at the scene and began investigations into the events that led to the tragic event.
The tragic father was arrested a few hours later, facing complaints about inadequate custody of the minor, since at the time of the tragic incident he was responsible for supervising the child.
