THEY WONDER IN PAPHOS ABOUT THE OVER-THE-TOP PEDESTRIAN BRID

THEY WONDER IN PAPHOS ABOUT THE OVER-THE-TOP PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE - Filenews 20/7 by Dora Christodoulou

After satisfaction, the questions. Questions that have been increasing lately among the social bodies of Paphos and especially in the educational community, from the delay in the implementation of the important project of the overground pedestrian bridge on Tassos Papadopoulos Avenue, despite the formalization of the inclusion of the project in this year's state budgets.

After the inclusion of the project in the announcements of President Christodoulides as they were announced to the Paphos authorities last September, came the formalization of the intentions through the funds provided for the project, a fact that satisfied organized groups, institutions and agents of the city given that the plans remained at a verbal level for a number of years. However, months later, the project does not seem to be proceeding with implementation, since no preparatory work has been communicated to the Paphos authorities, with the result that the degree of satisfaction is gradually reduced and thoughts turn to the question of what will happen.

This project is treated with particular sensitivity in Paphos, since it concerns the safety of hundreds of students who cross this avenue every day, all the more so since a few years ago the first tragic loss of a student was recorded in her attempt to cross the avenue from a controlled crossing point.

Local authorities are coming back in order for the new educational year to be the year of implementation of a project that in the city is characterized as of the utmost importance for the safety of hundreds of children and other citizens.

The project is promoted as urban planning, with funding at a rate of 80% from the budget of the Department of Urban Planning and Housing and 20% from the budget of the Municipality of Paphos.
