In the third ten days of October, Archbishop George of Cyprus is expected to visit Rome, following an invitation from universities to be a speaker at an event.
The Primate of the Church of Cyprus told "F" that he received the letter about two months ago and agreed to go to Rome, where he will also have a meeting with the Pope, so that everything related to the arrival of the Pontiff in Cyprus and Paphos can be discussed again.
The invitation from Archbishop George, but also during the service of the late Archbishop Chrysostomos, was open for the Pope's arrival, but due to the disagreements of the former Metropolitan of Paphos, Tychikos, the issue had been suspended.
After the installation of the new Metropolitan Gregory in the Metropolis of Paphos, the issue returns and the Pope's arrival in Cyprus is now considered certain, depending on his schedule and after the appropriate arrangements and consultations with the Archdiocese have been made.
Meanwhile, the Archbishop of Cyprus, George, speaking yesterday to "F", expressed his emotion, which will be celebrated next Saturday in the church of Agios Fotios the Cypriot, which has been erected at the expense of the Metropolis of Paphos, in the area of the Holy Monastery near the monastery of Chrysorrogiatissa, where the summer camps of the catechetical schools of the Paphos region are hosted every year.
The iconostasis and the icons of the church are a donation of the family of Archbishop George, from Athienou, in honour of Saint Photios, who lived as an ascetic in their area and who today only finds ruins in the Turkish-occupied area where a chapel was built in his name.
There, the Archbishop of Cyprus will meet the children and their companions and talk to them, while he will also welcome residents of Athienou who will arrive in the area by buses to attend church at the church of Agios Fotios.
