TALA - REFUSE COLLECTIONS
Following the change of contractor, please note that only one bag of garden waste will be collected from a household, if loads permit.
As a reminder, the situation has always been that the Council and contractor are only responsible for the collection of household waste. As a favour, to date, an odd bag of garden waste has also been collected. However, if multi-bags of garden waste are left outside a property, none of them will be collected and the home owner should make arrangements for private collection, or deliver these to the Green Centre themselves.
Going forward, please bear in mind that the Council pays for the weight of refuse taken to the landfill site. This cost is going to increase, which will have a knock-on effect on our bills. Also, if the 'pay as you throw' initiative is launched, there will be stricter conditions imposed on everyone as Councils and Municipalities move to reduce the amount of waste going into landfill, and encourage everyone to recycle, to separate their waste, and use the Green Centre facilities. Added to all this, when the Paphos landfill site closes, Paphos refuse will go to Limassol, further increasing costs!
