Sixteen femicides with 17 victims were recorded in Cyprus in the period 2020-2025, according to Police data, while in 2026 there have already been two attempts. At the same time, a total of 300 women and 347 children were accommodated in accommodation facilities for victims of violence on a nationwide basis in 2025. The data highlight the seriousness of the phenomenon of gender-based and domestic violence, at a time when the competent authorities, through the National Coordinating Body for the Prevention and Combating of Violence against Women, are promoting measures to prevent and strengthen the protection of victims and record incidents.
16 cases in six years
According to data cited by the Police, from 2020 to 2025, 16 femicides were committed with 17 victims, since in one case there were two victims. Specifically, we had five victims in 2020, five in 2021, two in 2022, one in 2023, one in 2024 and three in 2025. In total, the number of femicide cases was 16: five in 2020, four in 2021, two in 2022, one in 2023, one in 2024 and three in 2025.
According to the Police, of the 16 femicides committed in Cyprus in the previous six years, six were committed in Nicosia, one in Larnaca, five in Limassol and four in Paphos.

The offense of "Femicide" was added in July 2022 by an amending Law (Law 117(I)/2022) to the basic Law (Law 115(I)/2021) (the Prevention and Combating of Domestic Violence and Related Issues Law of 2021).
