The safety of the Vasilikos Energy Center and the wider area is an issue of utmost importance and priority for the Government, due to the strategic importance of the infrastructure that is concentrated and developed in the area.
In this context, the Minister of Justice and Public Order convened today a meeting of all stakeholders, during which the overall planning for the further strengthening of the security of the Energy Center was presented, focusing on prevention, preparedness and effective coordination.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Justice and Public Order, the Minister of Defence, representatives of the competent Ministries and Deputy Ministries, the Deputy Chief of Police, the Chief of the National Guard, members of the Fire Service and the National Guard, representatives of other competent state services, as well as representatives of all companies based or operating in the Vasilikos area.
During the presentation, information was provided on the actions that have already been implemented, as well as on the measures taken and will continue to be taken to strengthen land, sea and air security.
The overall planning aims to protect human life and the environment, to protect the critical infrastructure and facilities in the area, as well as to ensure the safe and uninterrupted operation of the Vasilikos Energy Center.
A central part of the planning is the creation of a Unified Coordination Center, which will ensure a common operational picture and will strengthen direct cooperation and coordination between all the services that have competence in the region.
The concentration of critical energy, port and telecommunications infrastructure in the region makes it necessary to have an integrated security framework, which will be based on risk prevention, continuous operational readiness and timely and effective response to any incident.
The presentation was followed by a discussion, during which views were exchanged and suggestions were submitted by the participants. The need for close and continuous cooperation between state agencies and companies operating in the region was confirmed, on the basis of unified planning and clearly defined responsibilities.
Today's meeting was a particularly important initiative, as it brought all stakeholders around the same table, with the common goal of effectively protecting the Vasilikos Energy Center, human life, the environment and the wider region.
