OCCUPIED TERRITORIES - THEY LEASED FIVE MILE, KYRENIA, TO THE OCCUPYING ARMY FOR 30 YEAR - PROBLEM WITH TURKISH CYPRIOT ''INVESTORS'' - Filenews 1/7

The "administration" of the Turkish Cypriot "peacekeeping forces" – the Turkish occupation army – has been leased for 30 years the landing beach of 1974, i.e. Five Mile near Kyrenia, by the administration of the pseudo-state's foundations, with the aim of preserving its "historical character and converting it into an open-air museum in honour of the operation in Cyprus on July 20, 1974".
As reported in the occupied territories, Turkish Cypriot media reports that an announcement by the foundations adds that this was done after "mutual consultation and coordination" and the board of directors of the foundations took the decision based on the proposal of its general director, Mustafa Toumer.

The Foundations administration states that the "landing beach" cannot be considered just a coastal area with commercial activities. "This is a historically and spiritually significant area that holds a unique place in the collective memory of our nation, preserving the sacred memory of our martyrs, as it was the first landing point of the Peacekeeping Operation in Cyprus on July 20, 1974."

It is also stated that the decision-making power regarding the lease, use and other provisions of the property in question, i.e. the beach, belongs to the administration of foundations under the current "legislation", adding that the lease process was carried out entirely within the "legal authority" and there is no change in ownership. "The aforementioned lease process does not lead to any change in the ownership of the property and its nature as the property of the institution is maintained exactly as it is," it is noted.

The administration of the foundations concludes that contrary to the perception that is attempted to be created, the process is not based on the unilateral evaluation of any individual or institution. "It is based on an institutional process carried out in accordance with the mutual consultation, coordination and official assessments of the relevant state institutions. This area should be preserved as a place of remembrance that will carry the sacrifice of our martyrs, the struggle for the existence of the Turkish Cypriots and the spirit of July 20, 1974 to future generations," he argues.

Yeni Bakis had the main front page issue today that three Turkish Cypriot businessmen who had paid 3 million dollars by investing in the configuration of the space there, were faced with the refusal of the "commander" of the "peacekeeping forces" to renew their contract with the administration of the foundations and were protesting against the problems created by this decision.
