The Police once again draws the attention of the public to telephone scams through the WhatsApp application, in which fraudsters present themselves as representatives of the Cyprus Police.
Specifically, the perpetrators make calls through the WhatsApp application to unsuspecting citizens, claiming that they are communicating on behalf of the Police. To make them more convincing, they use the photo of the Chief of Police as their profile picture.
Scammers appear to be using different phone numbers, while conversations are conducted in English.
These calls are fraudulent and do not come from the Cyprus Police. It is reminded that the Police do not ask through WhatsApp or other messaging applications for personal or bank details, passwords or any financial transaction.

The Police calls on the public to be especially careful and:
• NOT to respond to calls or instructions given by the fraudsters.
• DO NOT follow any links that may be sent.
• DO NOT disclose passwords, bank account details, one-time passwords (OTPs), or other personal data.
In case someone has disclosed banking or other sensitive information during such communication, they should immediately inform their banking institution so that the necessary protection measures can be taken.
The photo accompanying the announcement shows two of the phone numbers that have been used by the scammers. Please note that these numbers are subject to change, so the public should be wary of any such communication, regardless of the number displayed on the screen.
