NEW SCAM ALERT - Pafos Live 26/7
Recently, several cases of online fraud have been reported, in which citizens receive misleading messages (SMS or email), which falsely appear to have been sent by a well-known technology company.
These messages state that strangers had gained access to the photos stored in a cloud storage service and the recipient is asked to follow a specific link in order to supposedly protect his account.
By following the link, users are taken to a misleading webpage, where they are asked to provide personal or login details for the purpose of purportedly verifying their account. In this way, the perpetrators gain access to the victims' accounts and in several cases unauthorized financial transactions take place.
The Police recommends that the public be especially careful and reminds:
• Do not open links received via SMS or email if you are not absolutely sure of their authenticity.
• Never enter passwords, personal or banking details on web pages opened through links sent to you by message or email.
• If you receive a notification of an alleged problem with your account, do not follow the link in the message. Go to the official application or the official website of the service yourself and check any notifications there.
• Enable, where available, Two-Factor Authentication.
